I'm considering joining Netflix, where you rent your DVD's online and get them through the mail.

I'm wondering if anybody else is doing this or has done this and how you like it???

Thanks!
:)

We've been members for well over a year now and we love them. We get our movies really fast when we send them back and they always have a better selection than Blockbuster. No late fees is a plus too! I can't speak highly enough of them. I hope they never go under! I only wish they rented video games as well, then I wouldn't have to deal with blockbuster at all.

Another we LOVE them!! We started last year too and have never watched so many movies! :teeth: Turn around time is really fast. We've only had one movie come damaged and they replaced it before they even recieved the return!

We've been using Netflix for about six months and I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

We are on the any 3 movies out for $21.95/month plan and that works fine for us. I usually make note of what the new releases will be on Blockbuster or Hollywoodvideo's website. Then I add that to my request queue and wait for the mail.

The tricky part is timing when to send back a DVD. New movies are generally released on Tuesdays. I find that if I drop off my viewed movies at the post office on the way to work Monday morning, it will be delivered back to Netflix the next day in time for the next batch. I'll usually have the new DVD in my mailbox Wednesday.

If I mis-time it, the new DVD will have already have been shipped out and I'll be either on the waitlist or the computer will select the next available movie from my queue.

It sounds more complicated than it is. We enjoy not having to rush watching a movie. There are no late fees because there is no specific rental period. Keep it as long as you need to.

Just this week we received The Tuxedo, Road to Perdition and the Knock-Around Guys. And just returned Big, Fat Greek Wedding, Spy Kids 2, and Stealing Harvard. If we rented from the store, it would have costed more than our monthly subscription.

HTH, Steve

We love it too. Very rarely would we make it to the video store to rent a movie and sometimes it would have been nice to have something to watch, instead of regular old tv/cable or going off to the video store when the selection was really bad. We have seen move movies in the last couple of months. It's really great. Never have to go over to the video store to get a movie or return one either. And, they provide the envelope for mailing it back and everything. All we have to do is open it, watch the DVD, put it back in the envelope and drop it in the mailbox. It couldn't be easier. I also hope they are around for a long, long time!:D

Another YES vote!! And, a reminder to me to go check my queue. I watched ENOUGH last night and, Serving Sara tonight. I too, hadn't watched movies regularly but, with Netflix, there's almost always one sitting here to be watched.

Like DVC mentioned, there is a timing factor. If I time it right, I'll have 2 new movies every weekend. I have the 2-out program for 13 or $14.95. (3 was too much for us.) That would be 8 movies a month ~ what does Blockbuster charge for 8 rentals? ;) I think we need to watch 3 movies a month to break even, right?

Another nice feature I used was to 'suspend' my account. Right before the next billing, I called to cancel and, they offered the 'suspend' instead. This way, I didn't pay, no movies sat here, and, I didn't lose all my rental queue info.

Enjoy and, stock up on popcorn! ;)

We LOVE it here, too.

My DD gets excited when that red envelope comes in the mail. We have been members since March 2000. We were in on the early Netflix and we receive 4 rentals instead of 3, but I would still do it if we only received 3. It is great.

Lots of other companies can learn something about customer service from Netflix.

Wow!!!! What great responses! Thank you all!

And KimRaye thank you for informing me that you can suspend the account...I hadn't thought about it, but I usually take 2 two week vacations each year and I would hate to have movies here, or being sent in the mail while I'm away!

I'll be signing up this weekend.

DISers are THE BEST!!!! I always know I can get help from my DIS friends!

Thank you all again!

My folks do it & they swear by it. It became apparent that our Blockbuster is not getting any non-new release DVDs, so we let the reward card expire & are about to start with Netflix. :)

We've been members now for just over 3 years - and I have no complaints!!

The only time we've had any problem with shipping issues was around 9/11 - they said they never got a few of our returns - but they eventually showed up several months later...

I think the "best" thing about Netflix is the incredible selection. Blockbuster will NEVER be able to compete with that!

In the time that we've been members - this company has done SO many things to improve their business - and they appear to constantly strive to do more and more. One of the best things is, they appear to have added several new distribution areas - so now our movies come come from Georgia and, consequently, get here much sooner.

I would definitely recommend them!

That's interesting. I hadn't thought about where the movies were coming and going from. Probably helps explain why their turn around is so great. Ours come from Lansing, Michigan.

We have subscribed for probably over a year now too. DH likes them better than I. We do have a Hollywood Video very close to our house. But it is nice not to have to hurry and run out and drop off a rental because you forgot until 10 p.m. that night it was due back that day. ;)
The downside we ran across last night. We had three DVD's and our player is a Sony, brand spankin' new. (MAYBE played six DVD's on it before last night.)
One DVD would not play at all. Our player kept reading the disc was dirty. We kept cleaning it. Nada.
The last (third) DVD we watched we had a heck of a time mid way and still missed part of the movie and it kept skipping to out of sequence sections.
This is our second DVD player. Nothing was wrong with our first. The second is a better one and a gift. We have had problems playing Netflix discs in the old player too.
There have been times where Netflix is slow in *receiving* the returned discs and they always blamed it on the postal service -- even going as far as telling me to contact my local postmaster. (We mail them to MN for return.)
Once or twice I could see. But it was getting to be the norm for awhile. I mail LOTS of pins and wasn't noticing a slow mail service during that time on pin delivery. After awhile it became a weak Netflix excuse, I thought anyway.
Their selection is great though. But they aren't without their problems.

Anyone have to cancel their Netflix service? I have read in reviews that they are slow to stop making monthly charges against your charge card even after being asked to stop your membership. We'd like to join but any problems cancelling if we didn't like it might prevent me from signing up.

I love NetFlix! Upgraded to 5 movies for $29.95 a couple weeks ago. One suggestion if you like the New releases:

Go to blockbusters "Coming Soon" every other week and see what's coming up. Search by title at Netflix and instead of a "Rent" button you'll see a "Save" button. You're saved movies will be added to the bottom of your queue about a week or 2 before they are released. Then move them to the top before the release date comes.

I loved it in the beginning too, but we found ourselves letting DVDs sit for weeks without watching them, just too busy. I think we were the ideal Netflix customer, keep paying and never watch them. ;)

Even after we switched to the "light" service we just didn't watch the DVDs fast enough to merit the monthly fee. I DID cancel (you have to call to do so) and had no problems with them continuing to charge me.

Thanks for the Blockbuster Coming Soon tip!

I'm on the 5 at a time for $29.95 plan, but I tend to go in waves-- sometimes I'll watch 5 in a weekend, and other times I'll have the same ones for weeks. I probably end up not getting a very good deal that way, but the convenience is worth it!

Thanks EVERYBODY!!!!

I registered Sunday, got my first two DVD's today, and watched one, so I'll be popping it back in the mail tomorrow.

I think I'm going to like this A LOT!!!

Thanks again!
