a show about a butler... to maybe a president? it was back... in the 70's

He was the aide to a Governor. There was a Swedish nanny, the governor had a blond daughter played by Missy Gold. Benson was played by Robert Guillame (sp?).

Yup. First Benson was butler for Chester & Jessica Tate then he went to work for Governor Gatling, who was related to Jessica (maybe cousin, don't remember.)

Soap was by far the better show, IMHO.

That really was hysterical wasn't it. I would love to see re-runs of that show.

No,no,no. He BECAME that near the end when the show started really stinking and people were leaving and they had to bring in new characters.

At the beginning he was a food person. Hung out in the kitchen with the Inga, who was also in Soap as Corrine's birth mother.

For all you young 'uns, the little girl on the show was Missy Gold, sister to Tracy Gold who was in Growing Pains with Kirk Cameron.

Benson started out as the household manager, and he always fought with Inga the housekeepr. Over the years he rose to oh, some other position, and then I forget if he was elected or appointed lt. governor. Series finale had him running AGAINST the governor, but we never learned how it turned out.

Why is my head filled with this useless knowledge? Why? Why?

I actually loved that show as a child. Didi Conn, from Grease, was the governor's secretary, and Rene Auberjenois (or something like that) from Deep Space Nine was the comptroller or finance guy.

He's alive. He had a stroke while on Sports Night,but survived..
Inga Swensons name was Ms Krause,and the actress played Helen Kellers mother in the Miracle Worker

Wow, and you as well with the TV TRIVIA or in this case Movie Trivia..such a fabulous movie as MW and she played the role of Helen's mother!! Interesting!!!
