Does anybody else believe that Bush is behind the gas price hikes so he can use the money to pay for this war? It certainly makes sense to me. Am I crazy or could this be true? Any opinions?

no but I believe in the tooth fairy

I like play-doh

Nope. I know that OPEC is to blame because they are sticking low production. Not Bush or any one person. OPEC releases more oil, prices go down.

I think the Red Sox have a better chance at winning the World Series than that being true.

Not only will the Sox win the series this year, but afterwards they will travel straight to New York where they will have a warm embrace with the Yankees.

So I see some of you got a good laugh out of my post. I don't think it's impossible and I also wouldn't put it past Bush to do something like this. Call me crazy but again it's not impossible in my opinion. He has to find a way to pay for this war somehow.

As the worlds police force, and security at MOST of the oil wells in the Middle East....ya think the US would at least get the emplyee discount

Paraphrased from Jon Stewart

There is so much deceit in politics that it wouldn't surprise me. I can almost bet that when election time rolls around gas prices will go down "just in time" to get his vote. He didn't get my vote last time and won't get it this time. I feel we are in Iraq to finish off what his dad could not. Period!!

Federal gasoline taxes haven't gone up, though -- so it's not raising any more tax revenue. If anything, higher gas prices would lower tax revenue, as people theoretically should be buying less gas.

That's funny!

I wouldn't put it past Clinton if he could have, but Bush- uh no! Besides, OPEC totally controls that. Bush can't just unilaterally increase prices or even taxes at the drop of a hat. We are a democracy here you know. OPEC is nervous about instability in the region and has limited release of barrels.

Actually, I think the prices of gas usually go up around this time of year...vacation season is coming, more people travelling, more gas used.

Of course, prices will drop come fall, just in time for the election, because vacation season will be over.

Then people will think they dropped due to something Bush did.

I think that's silly/paranoid/kinda scary.

No offense. But if one politician had the ability to make gas prices go up or down, during an election year, where his numbers were not WAY great, don't you think he'd LOWER the gas prices during the busy travel season (whic is now) instead of raise them?

I agree.
I also didn't think one person, even the president, could just decide "hmm, I think I'll raise gas prices all over the US". Maybe I'm wrong- but if that IS the case... it's scary.
