Does almost everyone get a large popcorn and drink at the movies?

Do you get a large drink and popcorn at the movies?

I recently went to the movies and was sitting in the lobby waiting for the show to start. Most of the people went straight to snack bar and ordered a Large Popcorn and Drink. After the $9.50 for the show, and the $9.00 for the Large Popcorn and Drink, it was an expensive evening.

The Large Drink was 32 Oz's and the Large Popcorn was huge.

Out of curiosity, I asked the man at the concession stand about the typical food order. He said that MOST people ordered a large drink and popcorn.

I know you don't but I expect most do, and it would be curious to know why?

I buy a large popcorn and large drink only if we're going as a family. Split the popcorn and drink among 2 adults and 2 kids.

If I go by myself I skip the concession altogether. If DH goes by himself, he'll get a small/medium popcorn and a large drink since he's a big soda drinker. The popcorn gets taken home to the kids if there are leftovers.

Most times because we have frequent moviegoers rewards cards, we get either a free small drink/free small popcorn/free small combo and we can upgrade for 50 cents more.

No, I don't care for popcorn. I do ask for my gallon of coke though! ;)

We do. I drink the large pop and DH gets water. We eat a large popcorn and the large one is refillable. We sometimes go back for another 1/2 bag of popcorn. But, then, that will be dinner! :teeth:

I do. The large size popcorn and drink are usually just marginally more expensive than the smaller versions so the cost is not a factor. In addition, there is something about movie house popcorn that cannot be duplicated at home (despite the names on the microwave popcorn boxes). Maybe it is the fake "butter".

When DD and I go we always get popcorn, pop and raisinettes. :) Its all a part of the movie experience for us. It costs us $20 to go to the movies.

See, the thing w/the drinks is that you usually pay about 25 cents more for the next size up. IE: the small is $2.50, the medium is $2.75, the large is $3 and the mega-size is $3.25. So, if you're getting a small, they'll say "for a quarter more, you can get a medium" ... well, a quarter isn't all that much when you're already spending $2.50 for a drink!!! So, they "reel you in" that way!!!

When I go alone or w/DS9, I usually get a kids snack pack -- small drink and popcorn and mini-candy. DS doesn't like popcorn that much so he gets the candy and drink. If I'm lucky, he'll share. If not, I'll get my own small drink.

When I go w/DH, we usually get a medium popcorn and a medium drink to share between the three of us. If DH is hungry (ie: we've skipped dinner to make the movie), he'll order a large popcorn for us to split.

I will admit that we do bring in fun-size candy bars or Hershey kisses to munch on. I think I've done my duty by buying the price-inflated popcorn and drink!

We usually (family of 5) get 2 gallons of soda, 2 or 3 boxes of candy, an order of nachos or a couple of hotdogs. My dh loves the junk food...and I love the gallon size Mr. Pibb!

I dont like popcorn - I get a pretzel. :teeth:

Small popcorn and water. I don't drink much soda.

Never. I always buy bottled water and bring baggies of carrot sticks. I have terrible food allergies so the theater lets me bring my own snacks.

nope. if I get anything I get a small popcorn and small drink. even then the drink is the size of a bucket, at least at our theatre. Its ridiculously large. just wish dh and I liked the same kind of soda.

I love movie popcorn, but I don't need to eat the large amount. My husband makes me get it because it's only a little bit more $. We never eat the whole thing. Now, my husband will drink his "gallon" diet coke :rotfl:

To answer the question, yes we get the large and then we share. But I would like to ask the OP, are you Q? Please let me know now before I start responding to your threads....thank you.

I very seldom (once every few years)get popcorn and it's a small. I always get a jumbo soda to share.

I honeslty can't remember the last time I bought food at the movie theater. It cost more for the food than it does the ticket! My DH and I usually go to a dinner before the theater. I'd rather have a good meal versus some greasy over-priced popcorn. If I do need a snack, I'll stop at Wallgreens for candy. I am not paying $3 for Mike & Ike's.

We almost never get popcorn or drinks because we "time" going to the movies so that we've either eaten just before or will do so right after the movie is over. If I had a soda, I'd be out in the lobby using the facilities and I'd miss the movie!

Its been a while now since I been to the movies but when we go as a family with teenage boys we get the bucket of soda and popcorn and share. At the theaters we go to we can get refills for free and let me tell you teenage boys can inhale this stuff quick! As for candy I can get the same exact stuff at the local supermarket for $1.00 or so instead of the $3-$4 at the movies so we “sneak” some in to the theater with us.

The movie theater here seems to start their movies at weird times and not staggered enought for 1 consession stand for 8 screens. DH and I usually skip concessions all together because we dont' want to wait in line.

Seriously tho, WHY would so many of the 7 pm movies start before 7? Seems like a lot of them start at like 6:30 or 6:45 and only one or two of them at 7 or after.

We were spoiled with all the multi-theater complex we could go to when we lived in Dallas. There I usually got a small popcorn and a blueraspberry ICEE.
