Does AKV smell because of the animals?

A dear friend and fellow DVCer visited AKV on their last trip and was planning on staying there at some point but she said that after visiting she changed her mind because of the animal smell. I haven't read anyone else saying that. She is pretty sensitive to smells, so I didn't know if it was her overly sensitive nose or if it really smells like a zoo.

We've stayed there several times and never smelled a thing. :confused3

I stayed in a savannah view room last summer. Despite the summer heat, we did not smell anything. We did see someone one morning whose job it was to "pooper scoop".

Absolutley no smell at all.

We didn't smell anything either and we were there in August.

The only reports I've seen of smells were from the flamingo pond. We've stayed at AKL several times and never noticed any animal smells. They clean the savannas every day. I'm not sure how often the flamingo pond is cleaned but I would expect any odor from that area would be temporary.

Would Disney ever allow a smell?:rotfl2: We have stayed several times... and the only thing we've ever smelled is illegal cigarette smoke.:confused3

Frankly, I would hope for at a hint of a smell... Otherwise, I'm just staying at any resort. I love the smell of the ocean at VB, and I love the smell of the marsh at HHI... For me the smell wonderfully mingles with the sounds and the visions. JMHO.

On the balconies, there are signs.

So who exactly has arrest authority? Could you please point me to the FL general statute?

I'm quite certain this didn't have ANYTHING to do wiith the OP's question except as a slap to smokers by the original replyer.

Nope, never smelled anything at AKV. The keepers seem to be prety meticulous about keeping animal waste picked up.

Actually, it is against the law in the state of Florida to smoke in hotels. I don't believe that they can actually arrest you, but the business owner can be fined if they don't make any attempts to stop it.

I love people making generalizations and drawing broad conclusions based on their own personal beliefs. :)

I suspect the law specifies something to the effect "lobbies and common areas". I haven't read the statute but as soon as it becomes illegal to smoke outside in FL, ya'll can shut that state down and roll'er up. Tourism in FL will be over. ;)

As the signs tell you, it's to protect the animals from ingesting discarded butts. They can be very harmful to many of the animals (especially the birds), and the signs at AKL specifically explain that. I'm sure that is what the poster was referring to.

I DO understand. My point is that it is a Disney RULE. That doesn't make it a FL LAW and it's therefore certainly not illegal.

I will grant you that Disney certainly has the right to enforce their own policies on their own property as long as it doesn't supercede FL "public meeting area" laws. No private entity servicing the public has the ability to supercede state laws. I think we all know that.

I was simply letting the poster know that the slap didn't go unnoticed by at least one of us that does smoke and respects the rules and regulations and abides by the same. I was also pointing out that it had absolutely nothing to do with the original topic of the thread and it certainly isn't illegal, by any stretch of the imagination. ;)

OP, going back to your question - nope, stayed there in October and no animal smell at all.

The only animals I ever smell are the ones being cooked at Boma and Jiko.:rotfl2:

I am a tweener.... I have smoked and I have not smoked... Frankly the argument that the smoke might somehow effect the animals in the open air is about like saying that the animals are endangered by being captured and displayed to the public.

We all contribute to the degradation of this earth with our trash, waste, and pollutants...

Stepping down from my soapbox now....
