My flight from PWM to MCO just went down. It's not a large amount, but I was wondering if Airtran gave credits or would let me use the difference to reserve seats (I didn't know about the Kayak deal before booking.). Does anyone know?

Update: I called to find out, and the answer is, yes, they will give you a credit. You can use it to book seats. I also asked about baggage and she said that sometimes the airport staff can do it, but sometimes they can't access the credit through their program. I now have $19.80 on credit, hoping it will go down a bit more so I can "splurge" and reserve seats ahead of time without paying anything out of pocket. The credit is good for 1 full year from the date of the original reservation.

I called today too and received a credit but I was told that the credit could only be used towards a purchase of a new reservation. I specifically asked if I could use it to pay for my checked baggage and she told me no.

Why don't you try to get your seats now for free? Don't know if it works but you should be able to go to Kayak and then search for flights and link to AirTran.com. Instead of booking the flight it takes you to, go to My Account, then login and select My Bookings, select the Select or Change Seats button and see what it shows under Seat Fee for each flier, if it shows $0, then you should not be charged to select your seats. If it shows $6, then no go.
