The only benefit for AAA members is discounts on park tickets, they used to give you free theme park parking, because they had a AAA member center in Epcot near Carosel of Progress, plus the gas station near the Magic Kingdom.

The AAA diamond parking pass (preferred parking) seems to vary from one AAA office to another. For the most part you must book a vacation package through AAA to get the pass. However, I have seen a few reports of people walking into their local branch & getting one. It doesn't hurt to ask I suppose.
I have seen no reports of anyone getting preferred parade/fireworks spots without booking a package.
I don't know about Universal beyond a small discount in the tickets.
Parking passes are available branch by branch. We called one and was told they were out, then called another and got a whole bunch. Didn't book anything through them, but we are members.
For the record, the passes were very useful at Epcot and Animal Kingdowm. At the other two it would probably be easier to park near a tram and take that in.
