Documentation for Kids w/divorced parents

Forgive me, I'm sure this has been covered before.

I am remarried and have one DS9 from a previous marriage. His 'natural' father lives far away, so it takes a long time to get any sort of 'official' document from him. My question is, do I need a notarized letter from him stating that it is o.k. to take DS on the ship, since it leaves the U.S.?

If so, I'd better get started. I've only got two years...

Some people say yes. I have cruised twice with my daughter and they never questioned where her fahter was. My friend also traveled with her daughter with us and no questions there either.

Technically the answer is yes. In your documents that you receive, one will be for this situation. You have the other parent fill it out and then they need to get it notorized. My husband and I are in this same situation, both have daughters from previous marriages. We had our ex's take care of these forms. But at the terminal no one ever asked to see the forms. But you never know, they have the right to request them at any time. So my thought is better safe than sorry!!!

if you have sole custody and especially if your ex has no visitation rights, you might just need to take your official court docs with you as proof.

To be safe, I'd call DCL directly and ask....

We just cruised two weeks ago and unless there has been some change this is not correct. Technically you do NOT need to get permission from the other parent, as the form in your docs asks if you are traveling with a child "other than your own". If you were traveling with grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends' children, etc., in which case you must get permission from a parent.
