Doctors who come to the Resorts? Cost? Experiences?

With all of the swine flu stuff mania going on, I thought it was better to be prepared with a contingency plan just "in case" since we have a 2 year old. If necessary, we would, of course, go to the ER or Urgent Care, but I thought it might be easier, albeit more expensive, to look into one of the "house call" services. Any experiences with these? Good Physicians? Cost? How it works with insurance?

If you have not used these services, have you used a local urgent care or ER? Which would be our best bet and where is it/phone number?

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Hopefully, we won't need this information, but it's comforting just to have it in case. :-)

Centra Care, which is just around the corner from DTD, is the urgent care facility used by guests for minor illnesses/injuries. They have a van that can do pickups and they have room service. Here's a link: http://www.centracare.org/tourism.php

Thanks, will have to write this number down on the website...sticking around to see if anyone has ever used this.

We took DD into CentraCare (she had pinkeye) and they were pretty decent. There was quite a wait in the waiting room, as I recall, but they do triage patients so the elderly woman with heart palpitations (who had to be taken from CentraCare to the hospital) went in front of me as did the kid with a bleeding cut.

I've never used the room service doctor's visit, but it might be worth paying a reasonable convenience fee for the service. My understanding is the Dr. also carries common meds. and can dispense those right away.

I am not sure but I heard from someone that you need to pay up front for the service and that insurance does not cover it.Just food for thought.

I have used this twice! Both times, it was the same Dr. .. his name was Dr. Almond, and he was really nice! I even had to call him back a few days later, and he was really nice and spoke to me a few minutes on the phone. If I remember correctly, it was about $150-$200 for him to come to the room.. we had to pay him right there, we put it on a CC... the first time we used him, when we got home, we submitted the bill to ins. and they paid us back in full (minus copay), however the second time, they (ins.)didnt refund us at all, it was a big mess because I paid for an RX, on the same bill from the Dr.... Ins. told me next time, dont do that! to always take the script and get it filled at the pharmacy.. that sucked for me because the rx was about $150 (levaquin) so my total bill was over $300 and I got nothing$ back. Had I just paid the Dr. bill and submitted it when I got home, and got a separate script, I think it would have been fine. Though its much more convenient, If I ever need them again, I will not buy the rx directly from him. too much ins. hassle.
all in all, it was a good experience, I called in the morning (maybe around 7?) and they gave me an appt. time- not too much later either- like maybe 3 hours after I had called, and he was pretty prompt.
