To the people NOT getting the H1N1 vaccine, are you also not getting the seasonal flu vaccine either?

If this H1N1 had been dectected 1 month earlier then it would have been included with this season's flu vaccine. There is nothing different about this vaccine than any other seasonal vaccine. Each year the strains change, each year the vaccines change. This is NO different.

IF they had included the H1N1 strain in the regular flu shot, would you NOT get that either?

BTW, I plan on getting the shot for DD however it is nowhere to be found around here. I am not getting it for myself or DBF because we are not in confined spaces with other people for 7 hours a day.

Are the possible side effect of the shot really that worrisome? It's clear that the possible consequences of catching the flu can be deadly for some.

And true that we could catch the flu at the grocery store. Or the workplace, the school, the theater, a themepark, etc. I suspect that the likelihood of this happening would be far less if most took the shot though. Not that it's available in our area but that's another issue.

I just worry that many healthcare workers will be treating those with H1N1 and will likely be exposed to it in larger amounts than many others. They might also be treating those with other illnesses and by refusing to take the shot might just expose those with weakened systems to this stuff. Does a person who has this flu know immediately when they have it? I was under the impression that they did not.

Show me proof that the vaccine works. Not rhetoric or "clinical trials" that are held by the pharm company who made the stuff. Actual independent study, please.

Polio vaccine, Jonas Salk, 1955, Study monitors from the U. of Michigan "declared the vaccine to be safe and effective." Research paid for by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis (AKA "The March of Dimes"). Salk refused to patent the discovery.

Just pointing out that there is less mercury in a vaccine than in a tuna sandwich. That being said, I would get the thimerosol free version if i could. By the way, vaccines are not injected into veins.

I think it's an extremely complex issue and one that's being studied and debated in health care and disease management circles worldwide.

I also think that just because health care workers don't like the idea of being made to take it, doesn't necessarily mean that many won't.

This is probably a topic for another thread, but I think it would be a mistake to rely on a vaccine alone to think that all's ok (and this is true both inside and outside a health care setting). Other approaches to avoid transmission are necessary concurrently. The problem is getting everyone to comply - just look around.

It's not so much that I care about people getting the vaccine... I just have a high personal disdain for when people propagate junk science and out-right falsehoods... repeatedly.

To the people not getting the H1N1 shot, when you get sick, you certainly don't want to ask you dr for Tamiflu. If you are so worried about the vaccine, then you need to read this about Tamiflu. Personally, I would rather get the vaccine then get sick and take this RX.

I would personally take the shot if it were available and I would take Tamiflu if I got sick. I haven't read anything that convinces me that Tamiflu side effects are any worse than possible side effects from most drugs.

No kidding.

I've used Tamiflu and found it to be a great drug. However, I also get every vaccine available. I would guess, however, that people who choose not to vaccinate (to be consistent) would also decline Tamiflu. It would seem strange to avoid one and willingly expose oneself to the side effects of the other.

I personally have gotten the H1N1 vax, and the seasonal flu. I really don't care what others do, it is their decision. I just want to see actual FACTS, on either side, supporting their stance.
