Doctors or nurses? Question for you about the flu...

How far into the course of influenza is it too late to diagnose/treat with anything other than Tylenol/Motrin/Fluids? I've heard 3 days is the limit for anti-virals, but need to know if that's true.

Thank you for the quick response...that's what I was afraid of. 8yo and I are sick and I'm sure it's the flu, but we've missed the "deadline", so more tylenol and TLC for us.

Yep - this is what we were told as well when my youngest had influenza earlier this year. Not sure it really helped him. He was quite ill for 6 days.

My son was diagnosed the second day he had symptoms and we weren't even offered any antiviral meds. He was diagnosed Sunday and is still having the body aches. I don't know if I should keep him home today or not. Decisions decisions.

When 10yodd was diagnosed by the Ped a couple of weeks ago she gave all of us scripts for Tamiflu. You can take it as a prevention as well, 1 pill a day.

I did fill them and DH and I took it. We never got the flu. 15yodd took a couple of pills and then said she wasn't taking anymore. She also did not get the flu.

We filled 10yodd's script even though she said she would not take it.
Under 100lbs, they have to take a liquid, which the ped says tastes HORRIBLE.

That's kind of what I was thinking- but my husband stayed with him yesterday and declared him fine. He has ADHD and not much keeps him down, that doesn't mean he doesn't feel crappy though. When his appendix ruptured they told me no way was it appendicitis because he was "too playful" 24 hours later guess who's having an emergency appendectomy??

No- about 24 hours. He had a fever Monday.

Just an FYI, my dd was low grade and then shot back up and then developed that darn cough I told you about.
I hope your son doesn't get that stuff.
It was bad.
