Our family M.D. for last 35 years has retired and new M.D. taking over for him looks like he's 14.Seems like a caring person and a good M.D. DW is shy though so certain exams require you remove your clothes and said it will be hard for her to disrobe for those exams.I gave her talk about M.D.'s seeing it all before many times and don't worry.Ladies don't flame me I know that was a lame way to put her at ease, maybe I should offer to go back to exam room with her.Do you have any suggestions has this happened to you or someone close to you?

Yes. My doctor retired when I was about 28. He was the one who delivered me and two of my three siblings when we were born and had been our doctor ever since. It was difficult to start seeing the Dr. who took over his practice. The first time I saw him I had a sinus infection. I really didn't like him, so I asked many of my women friends for Dr. recommendations and several of them went to the same one, so I tried him out and liked him alot.

Your wife may want to do that. Ask her female friends for recommendations of a family practitioner.

Oh I feel her pain.
When I was pregnant with DS#1 I had had the same doctor for years. This was actually the doctor who delivered me, 24 years before that, LOL! Well I was a little more 8 months along and went for a check up. The office assistant was taking my blood pressure and making small talk with me when she mentioned "You know this is Dr L's last day, right?". I said "no", thinking, oh great hes going on vacation now? And she said "oh yeah, hes retiring". I almost dropped dead! I was very pregnant with no doctor. I then proceeded to his office with DH to find everything packed in boxes, pictures down, etc.. I just started crying. ;)
But the good news for you and your family is it turned out fine. In labor I didnt care who was or wasnt there and I started going to one of his associates who I really like now.
Good luck!

In UK for any 'delicate' female procedures with a male doctor, they have to call nurse into the room.

My worst experience was meeting the new GP who had removed some stitches, in the school playground where he was collecting his daughter (she was in same class as mine)

Eiblis, it is the same here. If a male doctor is performing any type of gynecological procedure a female nurse is present.

My current ob/gyn is female so it's not an issue. :)

Danny1649, if your wife is more comfortable with you in the room then by all means go with her.

My physician is female and she still has one of the nurses or cna's in the room when I have one of those "delicate" examinations.

Danny, change is hard. Especially when you have to get a new doctor after so many years. Perhaps Belinda should ask her friends and find another doctor. If she has to change doctors she might just as well change and having recommendations from other women might make her feel more comfortable doing that.

My doc hasn't seen patients in a few years due to knee surgery he had. :( I've been unhappy ever since!
