Doc recommendations for kids - just in case

We'll be visiting WDW soon and we have 2 5 year olds. Hope everything will go fine, but just in case, I would like to know the names/phone numbers of good pediatricians in that area.

Any recommendations? Or who/where should we avoid?

I would suggest checking with your insurance company to see which Drs are in-network with your insurance to avoid paying higher fees. As far as certain Drs go...I would suggest posting on an Orlando area message board to get some suggestions. Otherwise anytime you are going to a Dr for the first time, it's really hit or miss. Everyone has their own opinions on what a good Dr is. Some people prefer better bedside manner over more experience, others may opt for the other way around. It really depends on the individual person and their expectations, wants, and needs. As far as hospitals go, the closest to WDW is Celebration Hospital. I have heard great things about them. They may even have a pediatrics center as a part of the hospital, you may want to check. I would go with a pediatrician or a family practice Dr in Celebration before I would look anywhere else personally.

Most Dr's in a private pratice will not see children that are not patients of theirs. I would assume that is even more of an issue somewhere where children vacation all the time. If your child gets sick, you will need to go to a local hospital or urgent care center if your own doctor can not help over the phone. Out ped always said to call her first and often she could direct us over the phone or direct us to the best hospital. I would take any medications that you think you might need and chances are everything will be ok.

We have used After hours Pediatrics on two differant trips...they are ans urgent care clinic in orlando that sees only children..they are open from 5;00pm untill 12:00am 5018 Dr. Phillips Blvd.

Also a local once gave us the number of a local ped's office i think sees non-patients ( I have never called them though)

One trip both my kids got sick (very sick, high fevers too) at different times. My son turned out with an ear infection, and my DD had strep throat. Both times it was late at night when their symptoms showed up, and I was at the Dolphin with no car. My DH wasn't with us either.

The front desk gave me the number to an urgent care clinic that will send a doctor to your room. They were the best help! They sent two doctors each time, along with a huge bag of basic tests, and many common prescriptions. So my kids were seen, tested, and given medicine right in our room! It was great as my son was so sick, so he could lie in bed while we waited for them. The cost I paid directly (about $300 plus per visit) then they gave me all the paperwork to submit to our HMO. I was (surprisingly) reimbursed completely! I honestly would have paid that out of pocket for how quickly they showed up, they checked out my kids so thoroughly, and my kids each were feeling so much better by the next morning.

They will come to any Disney area resort I was told. I asked even if someone thought they had a broken bone or something; they told me that they have a van with an xray they would drive over even! Wow.
