Do your pets have quirks?

Ted takes a mouthful of food, walks around the kitchen, spits it out and eats it off the floor. He also doesn't glom his food down like a lot of dogs do. He'll eat a little now, then leave it and go back to it later.

I don't know if this qualifies as a quirk, but after Shiloh (a Weimaraner) comes in from doing his business he gets a treat and a rawhide. My DH made the mistake of giving them out of order and he refused to take it! I had to tell DH, it's a treat THEN a rawhide, do not reverse it on him!

Shiloh also suckles on a pillow. Our first Weim suckled on blanets, this one pillows! It almost looks like he is nursing on it, LOL!

My dog loves to bark at trucks. If we hear a truck, we just say "Snowy, I think I hear a truck" and she goes running up to the back of the chair and barks out the window. She does this for the mail truck, trash truck, school bus, any large vehicle.

Also, she is a sock thief. She will go into younger Ds's room and hunt down any sock on the floor, bring it out to under the end table in the living room and guard it. She doesn't chew it like she did as a puppy. She just guards it.

My dog Sassy runs when she farts like she's scared of it. My fat dog Dolly puts her head on your foot and pets herself with your foot.

Duncan can't eat a treat whole, no matter how small it is. We have to break them into pieces. DH does give him one every once in awhile whole, and Dunc walks around with it in his mouth crying.

He also does that grabbing food, then eating in the dining room every so often. I tell DH it's when he feels like entertaining, he uses the dining room.

I believe he was raised by cats. He does a lot of cat things, like arch his back when being petted and clean himself. He'll rub his head up against you like a cat does.

Also, he loves car rides and if he feels the ride wasn't long enough, he will not get out of the car until I drive him around some more. I can;t even lift him out, he just goes limp.

He's got more quirks, but that's all I can think of right now.

My dingy dog refuses to go out back to potty when it is dark.....even with the porch light on.....He will sit there until I stand at the edge of the patio while he does his thing....
I have such a hard time with my family over this....We can be out of the house for a couple of hours with him on the porch....the kids let him in when we get home...but if it is dark out.....he will run around in circles until someone walks him to the porch.....or worse yet ....no one pays attention and he has an accident. This never happen during the day, only at night....

When Ruxie's bone starts to get rough from chew marks, she'll go to her crate, drag out her blankie, and carefully wrap the bone in it, hold it between her paws and lick it.

My dog Sophie used to jump up to knock apples off the tree and then take them across the yard in her mouth, dig a hole, and bury them. The only problem was that she was blind, so all over the yard we'd find little rows - hole, apple, pile of dirt. She never quite got it right, but she kept doing it.

Our older dog - a 70 lb lab mix loves to cuddle in the cutest way. He waits until I sit down, then he puts the top of his head in my lap then he does a summersault so I can rub his belly.

When he does this, our little dog - a 60 lb lab mix gets jealous. First she bites his ears & throat to try to get him to move. She never succeeds so she trys to get my attention - she will grab my arm with her paw & pull it close to her. When my hand is close enough, she sticks her head under my hand so I will scratch her ears.

On cold nights, the older dog sleeps under the covers of our bed on top of our feet. On warmer nights, it is not unusual for one of us to roll over & be nose to nose with him - his body under the covers & his head on the pillow. On hot nights, he sleeps on top of the covers closest to the A/C.

Our little dog literally will inhale any kind of food or treat you give her. It is unbelievable how fast she swallows her food. I don't even know if she chews it! However - give her ice cream (the Frosty Paws for dogs) & she will lay down & slowly lick it.

They both have more, but those are the ones that come to mind first.

LOL! We have a chocolate lab that loves every living creature. He will let the cats drink out of the water bowl before he does. One time he and one of the cats got to his dog bed at the same time; he let the cat have it!

My mama has the most spoiled dog. Biscuit is a mini, long-haired Chiuaha living the good life. She will only eat if you feed her off baby silverware. She does not drink out of a bowl as that is beneath her. She has her own sippy cups without the tops on. One that has water and one that has another form of drink such as tea or kool-aid. When I call my mama and she says my name the dog will go crazy until I talk to her on the phone too. She literally has a child's toy box full of toys to play with and knows all the names of the toys too! She only eats red skittles or m&m's no other color. She loves ice cream but only if you hold her while she eats it because she gets cold. Oh yeah, you have to hold her when she throws up....EWWWWW. I think it's because she has my mama's disposition.

One of my now-gone cockers, Spring, used to lie down to eat, just lifting her head over the edge of the bowl. She was a very lazy dog!

I always let the dogs lick the beaters when I use the electric mixer. Another of the pups, Cookie, used to come running whenever she heard the mixer running. Even when she had gone blind she could find the kitchen and the beaters.

Peanut likes to hunt the wild strawberries that grow out in the yard. She sniffs, then grabs them and pulls them off the plants. The she comes into the house with strawberry juice all over her mouth!

This is a great thread! I've really enjoyed reading these stories. I thought my dog was the wackiest dog ever but now I know she has competition.
I have a 9 year old Bichon (Tiffany) that has more nervous tics than any dog I've ever owned. When she's self-conscious because she thinks she did something wrong, she sneers at you. It's like she curls one side of her lip up and then the more you say her name, she'll sneer harder, lick her lips and do this fake sneezing thing. It's funny.
Even funnier is how she's deathly afraid of farting. We think it has something to do with the string of bad luck she had with doing bm's in the house. We didn't realize she was scared of it until the kids got a whoopie cushion and she ended up trembling on my lap while they were playing with it. Now we use a fake fart noise (one) to stop her from bad behavior (barking, begging, etc.) It works great.

My cousin has a sheltie that's really wacky, too. If her husband sneezes or coughs, the sheltie will go attack the cat (whereever the cat is in the house). Now this dog (Izzy) will growl if you count slowly outloud. It doesn't like a recitation of the alphabet either. Wierd!
Pets are too much fun!

OMG, my dog and your dog must be sisters!!! I posted about my doggy and her "sock parade," and she also loves to bark at trucks and run along side them as they drive by! Of course, she has to be INSIDE the fence, even if she is outside the fence, if she sees a truck coming by, she will actually run back inside the fence into the yard before she starts her barking fit!!

Once, the mailman barked back at her, it was hilarious! She ended up running away, but went back to her routine the next day.

I have two cats, one cat LOVES to lick plastic bags. She expecially loves one from Disney World, DIsney STore, etc.

And my other cat loves water! He often tries to drink from my glass!

He also like to "dust" my computer monitor!

This thread is so cute. My mixed mutt, Scruffy puppy, is 12 years old and is very smart. We go walking occasionally at a national park by my home and he decided he needed a drink and put his paws up on the water fountain and drank the water out of it just like a human (guess he watched us doing that often). Sometimes I wonder if he is a reincarnated human.

Baby Ruth is a female I adopted her 4 years ago because she looks just like another version of Scruffy. She can be insanely jeolous and has to get inbetween me and Scruffy if I am petting him more than a minute. She follows me everywhere and has lately been sticking her head in the shower as I am taking a shower. She also has to smell the toilet after I use it (wierd). She freaks out during thunderstorms and will cry and hide. She also grabs mouthfulls of food and runs into the living room to eat it. She will only use the bathroom in the exact same two places in the yard.

Then we have the cats. Minmin is psycho cat. Sometimes she likes people and sometimes she doesn't. She comes out if I call her by name or using a cat call. She likes to lay right next to our fence and use her legs to pull herself along the side of the fence for about a length of 8 feet. Nuts.

Then we have Morris, an older stray cat that we adopted. I let him sleep in my house when its cold outside. He got used to my dogs (who would move to a corner of the room when they saw him) and then began prancing in front of them as if to say I dare you two to attempt to grab me. It is funny to watch.

Pets are hilarious.

I've shared these stories a few times, but they're so cute that I have to post them again. :)

Tigger, a Bengal, is my little baby. He loves to be held like a baby, and he likes to "kiss" my chin while putting his paw on my face. He only does it to me. The look on his face is so precious, it just melts your heart :lovestruc (whoever said that animals can't love you back never had a pet or didn't treat it right).

Tigger also likes to play fetch with his toy mice. He LOVES his "mousey," but it has to be a particular type of mouse - one that is made with nylon rope. His favorite place to..uh... store them is underneath the stove, in the closet, or under my dresser. It is a fun game for him to watch me pull them out and then shove them back under.

Because he kept losing his mice, we usually would keep a couple out for him and store the rest in a drawer in our desk. Well, he taught himself how to open the drawer so he could get them out. He sure showed us!

Oh, my..... this thread is a riot!!!

We have a 13 year old cockatiel that loves to have her head/neck scratched like a dog.

Our chocolate lab is happy if he has a human touching him. That is all it takes. He nearly always sleeps on his back.... front legs outstretched straight into the air.

Our black lab wants to fight. Over any toy, any ball, any object..... or if he can't find anything to fight with he will just head but you until you wrestle him. He also is known to hold one of the huge wolf bones in his paws over his head as he lays on his back. Oh yes, and he is the best defensive basketball player I have ever seen. He will bat the ball away and chase it down.

I should add that both of these dogs are two years old - brothers - and the baby and the bully alike weigh around 100 lbs. each!
