Do your kids watch TV before school every morning?

My kids are up by 6:30-7:00 most days and don't have to leave until 8:45. Then they want to sit around and watch cartoons (such as SpongeBob:rolleyes: ) for 2 hours. I recently put my foot down and said no more tv in the morning. Read a book, do a puzzle, do SOMETHING to use your brain. My ds (8) is having a very hard time with this as he would rather just let his brain dissolve into nothingness (can you tell we had a bad morning?:o ) I was just wondering what other kids are doing to pass time before school starts (or is everyone else SLEEPING?) I guess it wouldn't be as much of an issue if he wasn't struggling to keep up in school...:(

My boys watch TV. But not long. They are up at 7 and 1 is out the door at 7:40, the other 3 are out of here at 7:50.

Nope, they'd rather sleep as late as possible than to get up early and watch tv.

My kids do watch TV, time varies. They watch while they eat breakfast in the morning.

No but I do! I wake up every morning and watch the local morning new show (Mornings on 2 for those in the SF bay area).

Nope.

TV on weekends ONLY.

DS would rather sleep until we drag him out of bed in just enought time to get dressed and eat breakfast.

DD gets up earlier, but she stays in her room and reads (or surreptitiously plays her Gameboy . . . )

My DS always watches Rocket Power from 7:00 until 7:30 while he has breakfast.

If DS gets up early, like 6:00-6:30, I will let him watch some once he is all ready(we leave at 7:55). But if he sleeps until 7:00-7:30, there isnt any time. I figure he has 6+ hours of school(Kindergarten) ahead of him, so I should let him relax a little first.

DS usually watched Playhouse Disney or shows like Clifford in the morning, but then again, he only goes to preschool two 1/2 days a week. :)

Hi Denise!

DS used to watch TV in the morning before school, but then I found he was rushing through everything else just so he could vegge in front of the TV. So no more TV in the mornings and he only gets TV in the afternoon if all of his homework is done by dinner time, then I will allow him 1/2 hour to an hour. But we have less morning time than you, we are up between 6:50 and 7:00 and DS is out the door by 7:30 for a 7:35 bus. It was hard at first, but eventually he stopped asking when he realized we weren't going to change our minds.

Yes he does. Im up at 545 getting the coffee and computer going. DS gets up at 6am, has his breakfast while watching tv. The tv stays on until we're out the door at 7:10am.
He has often set his alarm on the wknds so he can get up and watch tv!

Buffy on FX before leaving for class(unless it's Monday and it's the tape of the night before's Alias)

Your kids watch Buffy and Alias???

Nope. DD sleeps until the last possible second, takes a shower and runs out the door. Occasionally she grabs a pop tart, which I wish she would do more often, she's never been a breakfast girl. But she DOES blare her radio while getting ready.

Very rarely! If I let them watch TV, they don't eat! So it doesn't even go on unless there some sort of delay like a dr's appointment.

The kids are normally up by 5:40 and we're out the door by 6:30 ish to get them to before care and us to work.

DS8 gets up at 6:45, takes a shower and can watch tv until 8 a.m. Sometimes, we work on spelling words instead on the day of the spelling test, just to refresh. I don't mind him watching tv.

Sometimes what gets me is when he's in such a hurry to turn on the TV. I'll end up picking up his dirty clothes from the bathroom floor and his towel from his bedroom. I'll bring him his breakfast into his room too. I don't have a problem with him eating in his bedroom, but I don't want him eating in the bed. Just this AM, he ate his breakfast in his bed and ended up spilling syrup on his comforter. Just what I wanted to wash first thing in the morning. Just needed to get that off my chest -- now I feel better.;)

Mine watch from 7:15 until 8:00. It seems to ease them into getting up in the morning, and I have no trouble with them getting dressed, brushing teeth, etc.

My routine changes every 3 or 4 months but right now I sleep in. From the time I was in 2nd grade through now (frosh in college) I've either watched SportsCenter for an hour or slept as late as possibl.e

No TV of any kind in the morning in our house. No kid's TV during the week at all. If DS wants to watch the news, or the Cosby rerun with us in the evening that's OK if he's caught up. Saturday morning he gets his share - mostly whichever channel he can find Hilary Duff on..... ;)
