I'm thinking of getting this for my almost 8 year old but wondering if its too advanced. Some of the reviews I have read are from the pre-teen set. He's not particularly savvy with video games but does like dogs. And since he won't be getting a real one anytime soon, I thought this might be a nice compromise, but I don't want it to be one of those things that just sits around after being played with once or twice.

Any reviews?

My kids have it! They are 6 and 8. It is fine for this age. Very cute too! :) Should hold his interest for a good while.

I don't think it'll be too advanced. The biggest pain with the game is getting the dogs to learn their names, so the player has to say it out loud over and over and over....

For a kid who wants a dog, it's pretty cool because it shows some of the work involved, like feeding, giving water, training, bathing and taking for walks. (Also, if you don't clean up after your dog, your "neighbors" yell at you.) We have the Labradors version, which is fun.

Some breeds of dogs are better at certain things, DS's lab is great with the disc catch, while his husky rocks at agility...

My daughter has it. She got it when she turned 12. Its really cute and she plays on it a lot. I think it would be fine for an 8 year old.

My kids have it, they are 4 and 8. Its the closest thing to a dog my kids will probably have in this childhood.

When they first got the Ninetendos this summer, daddy insisted that they both needed one, and that they both have their own dogs. Great. After a couple weeks it became clear that the 4 year old couldnt play on his own. He would spend all his "money" on toys, and have nothing left for dog food. So, we traded his game in, and he had a dog on his sisters game. Well, he was playing one day and since he cant read he didnt realize that he was donating all her dogs! She turned it on and the only dog left was her brothers. She was not a happy girl!

8 is perfect! My dd is now 10 and is tired of it. However she played it ALOT!
She is playing "The Sim's" pets now.
