our DD's share a room and they do have a tv and dvd player, so only Disney movies or other kids movies are playing!

Right now the only things that my dds (4&6) do in their rooms are change clothes and sleep. We have a toy room with a tv and dvd player. So, no tv in bedrooms but 1 in the toy room.

I'm nosey and he is 6. When we move it is unlikely the computer will remain in his room. I'm hoping for a house with a playroom but we will see!

Wow! I shoulda posted this as a poll....

As some of you have commented, this is really a power struggle btwn me & MIL. <Sigh.>

I myself rarely watch TV. My one indulgence is all the news shows on Sunday morning while I sit around and drink coffee. Otherwise when I put it on, it's usually for white noise when I'm surfing the web. I just think that 2 TVs in a 3-person household (and a small house at that) is enough.

Maybe when she hits those cranky teen years and I want her to stay in her room away from me I'll let her hook it up. But I agree with the majority of posters that, for my situation, I think I'd hook it up w/o cable mostly to be used as a DVD player.

No TVs in the kids rooms. Of course, they are under seven and we've managed to keep video games out of the house so far - who knows what will happen in the future? There is one in the family room and one in the basement which is enough for me.

I grew up in a house where the kitchen TV was on ALL the time. We ate dinner watching the news and I fell asleep to the opening theme of Hill Street Blues. Talk about no communication in my house and too much noise.

To this day, both parents keep the TV on just for the noise. I, on the other hand can't stand it! I stopped in at my mom's house the other day and she had one of the those hanging TVs going in the kitchen and the TV going in the living room - they are 15 feet away from each other. When I asked her what she was watching, she didn't know!!!

As you can see my opinion on this comes from my warped childhood.

My four year old has the Mickey tv/dvd player in his room and he's had it for about 2 years.

The twins have a batman tv/dvd player in their room. Neither room has cable.

I control when they watch it and what they watch. They are allowed to sleep with the tv on when they don't have school the next day. I go in and turn it off after they've fallen asleep.

I had a tv in my room when I was a kid. I turned out fine.

DS6 does have a TV (the mickey one - it's the grownups who couldn't resist) and a DVD player (which Grandpa bought him) in his room. But we don't have cable upstairs, so it mostly gets used to a watch a kids' movie at bedtime when his cousins sleep over.

My 4 1/2 year old dd has had a TV/DVD combo TV in her room since she was 2. She watches PBS and the Disney channel in the mornings....and her Disney movies whenever she likes. I think she is very well-rounded and spends lots of time being creative, doing puzzles, playing educational games on the computer, playing board games...or reading books with DH and I, so I have no problem with her watching TV in her room whenever she wants. I think this is a personal decision.....there is no right or wrong.

I want to be able to monitor what they watch..so they've got to watch in the family room or living room. (Heck....both TVs have 55 inch screens...they don't mind watching them!)

Neither of our two oldest children ever had tv's in their rooms, but we bought our youngest a small one for Christmas for her when she was 12. It is not hooked up to cable so really only has the DVD player, she watches movies and her Seasons of Friends DVD's on it. She puts it on when she is going to bed and sometimes while she is doing other things in her room.

We have a tv in the rec room, which my DS and DH have almost complete control over. As it turns out, our other DD has her computer which she can watch DVD's on.

I like to stay in contact with my child. Luckily, he'd rather play basketball than watch TV on most nights right now. His screen time is severely limited during the week. He hasn't asked for one(a tv) in a couple of years. He's 12. He knows the answer is no. Our computers are in public places too.

DD2 has a tv in her room, the pink Disney Princess tv with the DVD player to match. She's always in her room so she usually watches Sprout, the Disney Channel, or one of her Disney dvd's.

Yep, they each have a TV, Playstation, Computer, telephone, cell phone, and MP3 players. Worst of all, I don't monitor what they watch, how long they watch, or what they do on the internet. However, I think I should only have to pay Direct TV for the Nick and Disney channels in their rooms since the TVs seem to only have those channels. Their computers seem to be stuck on Myspace. (that is the only thing that I limit. They have private profiles and can only invite people that they know to be their friends)
