Do your kids always come home sick from WDW?

What is up with that? Everytime we go on vacation to WDW, someone is always coming home sick and the others are sick once we get back. Is it the germs on the rides, on the plane, or the full tilt pace that exhausts their little immune systems?

I guess there's nothing you can do to avoid it, other than handwashing and general good hygiene practices, and maybe getting enough sleep/rest. It just seems like every time we try to sneak a few days off from school, it backfires on us when we get home adding a couple MORE days sick time!

YES!! My DD (2) has been to WDW twice and both times she come home with a cold...UGH!!! I think between the parks and the airplane, germs are everywhere!

No, I can honestly say, this has never happened, and we go often (3 trips in 2007, two trips this year).

But then, I'm a germaphobe. I carry wipes & use them often.....I wipe down the table at every counter-service place we eat at, wipe down things like the phone , doorknobs, etc, when we check into our room, just to name a few.

:worship: So far, no one has been sick upon returning from a trip.

I've had one come home with a very bad stomach flu.

Luckily it was only one time so far...

Same here we go down ill too on occasion which just adds to germ breeding ground of WDW. Now my kids are pretty young and the baby doens't really touch anything but has asthma so he can get something just by hearing someone has a cold. I swear. I'm totlaly wiping everything, washing hands, etc but they find their way to our family.

No one has ever gotten sick on one of our trips or after our return and we go just about every year. I have to admit I'm not terribly careful about germs either - we wash hands before eating, of course, but I don't carry wipes and clean things. I've never wiped down a table or a room.

only once did someone get sick on our trips

when i was 8 my cousin got a really bad fever and he had to stay in the room for the whole trip(he was 15)

That's interesting. I went to Disney 20 times from the age of 6 to 16 (twice a year, every year). Not once did anyone become sick on our trip, or immediately after. And my parents were, by no means, cautious about germs. Which in all honestly, probably was a benefit to us - I think a lot of people go a little nutty with antibacterial stuff, leaving them with immune systems that aren't up to snuff.

Mainly from the air in the airplane luckily on the way home. It's a sign not to leave.
;)

On our 2007 trip every person in my family except me and my oldest DD got sick while at WDW and they got big time sick. DS (2 at the time) and DD (9 months at the time) had 103 fevers for about 3 days that then turned into a nasty cold, then 2 days before we were to leave DH came down with a stomach virus, exactly 5 hours after getting home I was bowing to the porcelain god and a few hours later it got hold of my oldest DD. That trip was so horrible that I vowed to do absolutely everything in my power to try to prevent this from happening again. My family gets a little annoyed with me but nobody has gotten sick on a trip since then.

What I do now is the minute we get on the airplane I wipe down the arm rests and the tray tables. When we arrive at the hotel I spray all door knobs, toilet flusher, remote, light switches, etc.. with lysol I even lightly spray the bed spreads and I make certain that they wash their hands very well prior to eating anything. I emphasize that they keep their hands away from their faces and I also emphasize to them that they should try their best not to touch anything while in the restrooms. My oldest is hilarious she opens and closes doors with her elbows, flushes with her foot if it's not automatic, and knows that once she has washed her hands she is to use the paper towel to turn the faucet off and open the door to leave (there are so many people who don't wash their hands after using the restroom and if you wash yours then touch the handle to open the door, well EEWWW!!) Knock on wood my kids have been healthy all summer and that's saying a lot after our WDW illness's last year we spent most of the summer and into the school sick constantly!! We must have had at least 4 different stomach virus's last year and I just can't go through that again;)

Never had anyone get sick at Disney World, but DH got deathly ill at the Grand Canyon. :3dglasses Altitude sickness.

I used to get awful flu and cold all the time, about three days in without fail. Last three trips I took my own pillow with me and nothing. Best not to think about the germs on the pillows provided really. I'm already a packer so DH just rolls his eyes and tries to get one more bag in the trunk!

Going on my eighth trip, my DD has never gotten sick and we don't wipe anything down anywhere. I did catch a cold one time but this was at POR with a room air conditioner blowing cold air on me (my mistake). Otherwise perfect, no stomach aches, nothing. I think part of the reason is because we aren't germophobes and have developed very strong immune systems (in the last three years neither one of us has been sick a day) because of that.

How weird... when we went we all came home with colds. We were quite irritated gettign a cold in June in FL.

Only once... I've been 18 times since I was 9 and never came home sick. We've taken our girls 3 times so far (4th trip is less than a month away  ) and the only instance we had was when we went 12/2004.... about 4 days after we got back, my then 4 yr old DD had INFLUENZA... it was the year of the flu shot shortage. My DH and then 2 yr old DD followed (I have NO idea how I escaped it :confused3 ) They were all miserably sick for nearly 3 weeks over Christmas/New Year's.... thankfully it didn't happen DURING the trip :thumbsup2

We go once a year and though we've only been sick a few times, it sure wasn't fun to be missing out on Disney fun. We are diligent about handwashing and good sleep. Really a good night's sleep can help our bodies be so strong against so much. We don't go till all hours, it just isn't worth it. I know people who drag their kids around way past bedtimes, they're hanging out the side of the stroller...take them back to the hotel! They'll be older in a few years and you can stay out later then!:thumbsup2

Every single time!!!!!!:headache:
It is like they get some superbug! We even had to extend a trip once because they were too sick to fly home.
