If they *dont* please tell me what brand/pattern you are using.

I googled and read the postings regarding lead content, size of porousness (sp?) of stoneware etc ... but I refuse to buy another set of dishes and cross my fingers and hope and pray they dont get hot. :sad2:

I sold a fabulous (discontinued) set to fund my move across country. They are too expensive to re-purchase ... so ladies (and gentlemen) please help!

What is working for you?

my cheapo Corelle dishes don't get hot. My "better" stuff (either Pottery Barn or Williams Sonoma) does.

I hardly microwave my Denby but I don't think it does. I'll have to check.

My mom has Pfaltzgraff (sp?) and they get hot after about 2-3 minutes in the microwave.

i've busted 3 cheap dinner plates from big lots in our microwave. they were HOT!

my fiesta dishes don't get that hot. they get hot, but not burn your finger tips off.

haha i thought it was just time to replace our microwave, but this seems to be happening everywhere now.

You can have a totally foodsafe glaze, according to OSHA standards, and it still might not be microwavable because of the other minerals than lead. Heat is a different issue from food safety.

Microwavability is a totally different factor as the microwaves react to metals. A bowl can be foodsafe, ovenproof, dishwasher safe and still not be microwavable.

Nope! My Denby doesn't get hot in the microwave!

I LOVE my Denby! Every time I pick up one of the craftsman mugs, it makes me happy all over again. :lovestruc

I gave up trying to microwave any bowls or plates. If something needs to go in there, I put it all into a plastic tupperware dish and when it is cooked, I can pull it out and still have my fingers intact!

huh

years ago friends were putting just dishes in their microwave...... I asked why,, they said to heat them! so the food stays warm.
wow, great idea I thought...... so I started doing that.

so are you now saying this is bad.....??

Mine only get hot where the food it. Its just a natural thing that happens.

The OP is talking about the reasonable expectation to put in a bowl or plate in the microwave and not burn one's hand pulling it out. :headache: That is what is meant about a piece being "microwavable." Pieces that are not microwavable can get finger burning hot. But, they will never get up to a temp close to 1100°F where a problem with the molecular composition of he clay/glazes would occur.

I just use potholders for pieces too hot. Unfortunately, you don't find out until after you've burnt yourself on it the first time. Ouch! :headache:

I have Longaberger dinnerware, and it does not get hot. I also have the mixing bowl set, and the casserole...I use them all the time (both oven and microwave oven)...no problems! They were very pricey, but worth every penny! (oh, and I bought mine while they were still made in the USA. I think they are made overseas now, which I wasn't very happy to hear)
