when you call in sick? Mine do. I know it is an issue for myself because I have to learn to ignore those things, but instead I let them bother me. I work in a middle school and my job is split between two offices--the front office and the data center. The only job that has to be covered when I am out is doing the daily student attendance. A co-worker from the Guidance Office (whom I am friends with) does this with no problem. The two woman in the front office, however, complain to no end when I am out, but of course not to my face. I do NOT miss a lot of days, but yesterday I knew I was coming down with something. Sneezing, runny nose, very pale, etc.--many people commented I didn't look good. When I was leaving, one of the woman said Oh--if you call in sick tomorrow, could you call me and let me know so I can come in a little early?" After I got home and thought about it, I felt she really put me on the spot by asking me to do that. If she had cleared it with the principal, I wouldn't have a problem, but she didn't. I called the principal to tell her I would be out for a few days (am home with a terrible head cold right now) and I mentioned what Sue said. She told me not to call her as she wanted her to work her original hours.

So, instead of relaxing here at home trying to get better, I'm worried about having to deal with this nut case when I go back to work.

Sorry this is so long............how do you guys deal with these kinds of co-workers?

I know mine make me feel that way as well. I work with 2 ladies that are absolute martyers. One works until she drops. She could have a 102 temp and still come to work.

The other is a huge hypocrite. She gets upset when others take time off, but misses about 35-40 days per year. Our firm puts up with this absentism for some reason.

{{HUGS}} Ignore those co-workers. You must take care of yourself. If someone truly is sick and contagious they should not be at work. I am too busy to get sick b/c of someone else.

Hang in there and I hope you feel better.:)

I always felt guilty when I called in sick. No one made me feel that way, I just felt guilty. I don't know why....my mother is like this too.

I work at a High School for an Administrator. There are two of us for two administrators in one office.

If she's out sick, no big deal, I don't care. Same goes for me. Hey, if you are sick, you are sick, who cares what they say. You shouldn't let it get to you.

Take care.:)

You said you are not very often, so as far as I am concerned forget about feeling guilty.

We all get sick. We all have to stay home once in a while. That's life.

When a co-worker is sick, it is up to the other employees to cover. That is a part of working life.

I am sure you do not make them feel guilty when they are off, so why should you worry about them?

Relax, get rest, and get better.

If they complain too much, tell them you stayed out to keep them from getting sick.

No, I don't have this problem. I work with a great bunch of people. When I'm out, I usually get lots of emails of concern from several of them. I'm lucky.:)

I never had a problem when I was sick, but when I was supposed to help out at an evening meeting and couldn't get a babysitter, I got the cold shoulder the next day from everyone in the dept. It amazes me...no, I couldn't take DS with me. The director won't allow kids anywhere around. What was I supposed to do? Leave him home alone? I don't think so! Be reasonable. And now that I no longer work there (I resigned in May

), they want me to meet them for lunch every now and then. Give me a break!

Do we work in the same middle school????

My position affords the school the luxury of NOT having to get a sub for me. If I am out sick, the kids get a "day off" from speech. My co-workers however, find the need to email me and try to make me feel guilty if I stay home sick. I certainly do not do that to them, and they both take sick days all the time when they aren't even sick!!!

What is it with people???

I hope you feel better!! Don't worry about work! They'll get over it. Take care of yourself!

Hey -- why not count your blessings? At least you have a job where you CAN have someone cover for you. For years I had a job where I was the only person who could do my job, so it was worse to stay home than work sick. I took virtually no sick days for years.

Just ignore your coworkers.

I'm sorry you have this problem. Fortunately I don't. Most ask me how I am doing the next day when I come back to make sure all is okay. Just relax and I hope you feel better soon :)

As long as you don't go over your allotted sick days they should not make you feel guilty. We get 10 days and they carry over to the next year but if you ever quit you do not get paid for them. One of the other aides has 170 sick days piled up!! She still stresses about taking them. We can also take our sick days for our kids, I'm planning on using the majority of mine. I don't get paid enough to feel guilty!

People do get sick! Ignore those co-workers and refer them to the Principal if they have a problem:D

Hack in the direction of whoever complains about you calling in sick! LOL

You shouldn't feel guilty! The guidance counselor where I used to teach was saving his sick days for when he retired in a couple of years so it would add to his benefits. Even though he had over the allowed amount he still never took a sick day the entire time he taught. Thirty years and never took a sick day. The sad part is he had a fatal heart attack last Friday at the end of the school day. :( I learned many things from him the year I worked with him but the most important lesson he taught me he never practiced. Never again will I feel bad or guilty about taking my negotiated sick days or personal days.

Thanks for all your support guys. The administration is actually quite understanding. It's the 2 in the front office that make a big deal out of it -- one in particular who complains just about everything. One of my co-workers called today and said she was wondering why I didn't call her to tell her I was going to be out. What nerve!

I'm still not feeling well at all and will need to take tomorrow of as well. I get 12 sick days per year and carry them over, too, so I have plenty days that I've yet to use.

I just will never understand some people and their pettiness:rolleyes:

Doctors are NOT allowed to get sick :D :D :D :D

I'll only miss work if I'm in the ICU.........as a patient :jester: :jester: :jester: .....
