Do your children "complain" about which resort?

We are planning at staying at CB on our next trip and my DD6 was upset because we were not staying where the big phone is (Pop Century). We have never stayed at PC but we drove by it on our way to the All Stars.

My kids are content with the ASR and PoP. But however, they would ask for ROOM SERVICE! I just tell them, no not at this hotel. At Universal we always stay on property (RPR) and sometimes do room service. And now, whenever we travel and stay at a hotel, they ask for room service. I think I spoiled them!

We did btw tried HRH concierge and we enjoyed our stay and the service there, then we moved to RPR std and they were looking for the concierge service. I'm glad that I only did that one time concierge thing or they would be looking for that on every trip at Universal.

My sister & her family were staying in a 1 bedroom at the VWL for a few days, and I took our kids there to visit them and we booked a room at the All-Stars for 1 night. We went into the room and my 4 year old looked around and said "Mom, where's the rest of it???" He looked a bit disappointed, I just cracked up!

Then we went and visited my sister and on the way back to our hotel, he said "Mom, I like Aunt Karen's room better-can we stay there next time?" Got to give him credit-the kid's got good taste!!

Our son gladly stays in a Holiday Inn if necessary. He really doesn't care.

However, once we stayed at the Allstars and he asked if we couldn't go back to the Polynesian sometime. He had a different picture of an onsite resort I guess. It wasn't a complaint (I won't tolerate that) but just a question.

Do they complain - no. Do they have a preference - yes. I originally booked the AKL in June for our trip in August (4 days now and can't wait). The first time they went to WDW they were 3 and 5 and went with the flow. Now they are 10 and 13 and have opinions. We got together one night to see what everyone wanted and, as a result, we are now at the Poly (and I can't say that I am unhappy with this chang). We have stayed at different places over the years but the MK resorts are still the favorites.

Did you ask your son what it was he liked about the AKL?

I tend to think some of the other posters could be correct about how kids love consistency. Many want what is familiar and feels safe. Children love routine and repetition - how else could they stand the same story read over and over and over ad nauseum until they know it by heart?

Good grief, I have grown relatives that gripe about doing something "different". They are also the "homebody" type people. Anyhow, after you talk them into something new, and they may even gripe a bit about it while on the vacation, they come back and tell everyone how much fun they had. Some people just tend to resist anything new while others love to dive into new experiences.

My other thought was, how much did he love the animals at the AKL? Most kids get absolutely thrilled with animals and he may realize there won't be any at the other resorts.

I'm curious as to what his little four year old mind is thinking.

And regarding the parenting thing, I was raised staying at Motel 6 and eating at Denny's because that's all we could afford. But before jumping to conclusions, let's find out what the little tyke has running through his mind. I'm sure it isn't the cost difference of the resorts. Does a four year old even understand "value, moderate or deluxes"? Probably only if one learned from their parents that one was "better" than another.

only time DDs (at the time 17 & 15, DD8 never complained)ever complained about where we stayed was at POFQ. With FL rate it was $99 a night, so I went for it. Thinking its the first and maybe only time I can afford a moderate. Because we arrived around 9am (I work til 4am and drive up after a shower and waking the girls) the only room available was in the back but because we were told a bus stop was close by we took it. The girls hated it. It was a long walk to the lobby and for them to get food. (teenagers *sigh*). The other thing they did not like was "its nothing but little kids and parents". My DDs like the ASR. As my middle daughter says "more boys". SO back to the ASR we went. But getting 2 rooms. The extra bathroom came in handy. DDs still prefer ASR. When they go up with friends thats where they stay.

Last August we stayed at WL concierge and middle daughter (17 at that time) loved it. Oldest daughter didn't go (work and school). Middle DD loved it. This past May we stayed CR 1 night (we were there to upgrade her pass) She loved using the watermouse. Especially the guys working the marina. *sigh*.

Sept should be a relaxing trip. Only youngest DD (11) and I are going. She's the easiest to take to Disney. Will do anything and stay anywhere. Will even ride Mission Space by herself. Sorry I just don't have the stomach to ride it again.

But I do admit I miss taking all my girls. Remember to enjoy your trips because they grow up too fast.

My son doesn't complain. He has some resorts that he prefers over others, but of all the resorts we've stayed at in the past five or six years, he's found something to love about all of them

One year my daughter was so upset we were leaving the GF to go to CR - I was so worried that I had spoiled her with this classy hotel. Then I found out it was because she loved seeing the ladys with the "umbrellas". She was all caught up in the fantasy of a Mary Poppins-type hotel!!

She is 11 now and really wants to go back there. She is turning into a teen, but does love "fancy" things. Cost is just prohibiting that stay.....

my dd and I will be making our annual mommy/dd trip this year in January. As a single mom funds are not always free-flowing...of course that is usually most families BUT, I thought we might do the Poly this year IF we got a good rate. I simply told her that we could do the Poly or go to POFQ and we'd have more money to spend in the parks on stuff she wanted. I showed her pics of both resorts, etc. Hands down she voted for POFQ. When she wants something...she wants it. I think she asked for every costume they sell at WDW last year but there was a limit. This year...she'll be costumed for months

He has no concept of deluxe vs moderate vs value I am sure. I do think it has to do with animals and the pool and well, we had a great time there! But on our four or five visits to POR, we have also had fun there as well.


I hope I didn't give anyone the wrong impression. Its not like he threw a massive fit as to where we were staying. Its was just funny to me because I didn't think he would be so matter of fact about it.

i don't think it's an issue of spoiling...your guy is pretty little still to understand the difference between the cost in hotels he just knows what he likes! just tell him that you can stay at AK again another time, and ask him if he'd rather stay at the POR or not go to see mickey this year? I think he will warm up to the idea of the POR quickly.

My DD likes the Poly for the volcano pool. It has nothing to do with the costs. She would have cried whether being offered the Allstars or the GF. If they aren't the Poly then she isn't going to be happy. Of course anywhere is better then no where when at Disney but she does have her favorites as I do.

No wrong impression here. I think it's funny the things we get our children used to. All children are different even some of the ones that get extemely spoiled end up being the most appreciative children.

You only come this way once. Enjoy & be Thankful!!

You know DD(6) LOVES the Coronado Springs. Although she has never complained, she just express what's her favorite resort. We stayed the first half of our past trip at the Caribbean Beach and moved the day of the hurricane (due to... nevermind) and she did not utter a word. But if she ever did complain she always has a second choice.....................HOME!

I have enjoyed reading this thread. I also took the original post in the manner it was meant - pure amazement at what our kids think and why. Three years ago it was a dream come true for me when we were able to stay at the Polynesian. My one and only trip as a child to Disney was when I was 17. My parents rented a condo a few miles from WDW for $125 for the WEEK! I then took two more trips with DH before the kids came along also staying off site. I actually thought "on site" was for the very wealthy. When I discovered this site WDW Resorts came within reach and we stayed at POR for our 1st trip as a family.

I can honestly say that my kids prefer the Polynesian simply because they know that I love it there. They also know that their Dad and I work very hard to save for our vacations. I think the wonderful memories we have created on our trips are the reason they want to go back to the resorts we have stayed at.

Yea, I think it is just a familiarity thing. And maybe the animals.

I find one thing pretty consistent when it comes to my children and vacation. They get excited about what I get excited about.(and DH ofcourse)

They have stayed at a Value- AMo, a moderate - POR, and a deluxe - WL. They were crazy excited about ALL of them. And you know why........BECAUSE THEY WERE AT DISNEY!

This time we are off site. They are off the wall excited because they will have their own bedroom, seven pools and I told them they could spend some time in Mommy and Daddy's jaccuzi. (it's in the Master bedroom, and from the pictures, it's so big, I think all three of them can fit in at the same time)

Most of our friends have not been to WDW and the ones that have only go every four or five years, if that. They think WE'RE the crazy ones, and we only go every other year or so. So my kids know that they are very fortunate to have gone as much as they have.

Maybe their attitudes will change as they get older. I'm sure they will have their likes/dislikes. I mean, we do, right??
