We are in a full hook up site for our first and only camping stay at Disney my wife camped there for her first few trips so she wants to go back and re live the old days. We prefer the resorts and thus bought DVC for our family comfort (having 4 kids gets cramped no matter what accomodation you have) so for us the 2 and 3 bedroom villas are far more comfortable.
We have tried them all, but prefer the full hookup. We don't need cable. All we do is check on the weather and maybe turn the TV on for a few minutes before bed. Not in the camper enough.
The Fort needs no explanation as to why it's the best. It is THE FORT.
We stay in the preferred. Any more it really does not matter where we stay now that we have a cart. But we always stay in the 200 loop. The Fort is just the best.
We always do full hookup in the original pet loops. I like them best because the dog can walk and the kids can ride/blade in the 4 loops (1600-1900). I have a satelite dish on the RV so we don't need cable.
We have done preferred the last trips and this coming trip we have booked a premium. I did that because I like the idea of a bigger site and just cement none of that dirt that tracks everywhere. I also liked having cable although we have satelite in our new motorhome but I didn't think with all the trees we could get a signal out but it sounds like we might be able too. Cool.
We have a golf cart so location isn't really a big deal.
Forgot to answer the why...... love having our own bed, own bathroom and we can fix some meals instead of eating out all the time. We love looping in our cart. We just LOVE the Fort!
We chose preferred because DH wanted to be closer to the beach/marina and who am I to argue as long as I get to go! Cable is a plus for us because we love all of the WDW channels. And we aren't too far from the Settlement bus stop so we can catch any FT.W bus at the Outpost to get back to our site.
And we really love camping at WDW! It allows us to come back after a busy day at the parks and just RELAX. We can put the kids to bed and go out under the awning and watch the MK fireworks through the trees (and hear the soundtrack as well). Camping gives us all our "space" which we wouldn't be able to get in a hotel room. The castmembers here are just great...everyone wishes us a great day every morning. Also, as someone else said...it's really nice to sleep in our own bed and use our own bathroom!
Have always stayed preferred. Attempting to switch next stay to premium(no luck yet) simply for the easier access for our big rig. We only stay at FW because its my bed and the four legged kid(s) get to stay with us.
In 2006 we stayed on a preferred site and LOVED it. We mainly live in our RV on the summer so it was like taking our home to Disney World. This year we have a Premium site booked to better accomadate our 40' fifth and Freightliner hauler. We leave out in 43 days. Can't wait!!!!
We're trailer trash and think those like us make great campers and neighbors so we do full hook up pet loops and look at my tag for my preference.
As far as FW vs. a Resort, once you stay at FW the answer will be obvious.
We have satellite TV and wireless internet so all that which was offered for the "snobs" in those fancy loops are meaningless to us.
But, seriously about the only time I could see a Site real close to the marina is if you have a handicapped situation and that only helps for the Settlement area and MK, since you will still have to take a bus to get to the other parks and DTD.
