Do you work with someone who wishes they were let go???

I know that this might seem like a odd post, but does anyone else have someone in there office who wishes the company would let them go and just give them a severance package like I do.

Someone in my office comes in each day and makes a comment how they wish the company we work for would just let them go . I have no idea what this person is thinking, because in this case the grass is not greener on the other side.

my mom hates her job and cant wait to be layed off (or let go). Shes so excited everytime they start talking about it. Me? I would be sad, no more good garbage finds! (my mom works at a univesity and all the professers know me so they save stuff there throwing out for me)

Maybe if said person opens their pie hole enough, the company may let them go, as in fire, as in no money for them because they talked about not wanting to be with the company anymore.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Once our department manager comes in that person doesn't say anything.

I work with MANY people who constantly talk about how terrible it is to work for my company, how they would rather work THREE jobs than work for this company, how they don't care at this point if they were fired...

I try to stay away from these people, because I've been on the other side of the yard, and the grass is NOT greener over there!

Yep the youngest member of our team is like this. She will tell everyone how much she hates her job and how she hopes that she is in the next group to go. She's a single mom who thinks she'll just live off the government for a while if it happens.

They probably know people who are on unemployment and think that's great, but at some point unemployment runs out and then what.

My company went from over 200 ppl to now under 25 ppl in 3 years - most did not want to get laid off but there are a few who would still love to. Mostly women who are apart of dual income families. I could see that they want their severance as they have seen so many others getting it too. I am not one of those people but I can see where some may think - sure I can afford to get severance for 20+ weeks and unemployment...

It depends on the situation. We just had a major layoff, where we thought we were going to lose about 30% of our staff but they offered an early buyout and you won't believe how many people jumped at it.
I would love to retire early but with 2 kids in or going to college soon that's not realistic for me but believe me when they graduate, I would not have a problem with getting laid off.
For me it's not about grass being greener, for me it's more of "there are so many things I want to do in life" besides work.

Also I just got a new boss and he's horrible so I can't see myself staying here much longer.

I know with a recession going on I should be lucky to have a well paying job but it's horrible going to a job you hate day after day.

add my friend to the list... everyday she is hoping to get fired and get umemployed, our boss is very hard to work for... i still would never hope for that though.
