Do you wear your contacts when you shower?

Never heard of that. I'll make sure to take them out. I now wear daily disposables so I can take them out anytime/anywhere:thumbsup2(They cost more $ but are one of the best things I've spent my money on!)

i agree..I have been wearing them for 26 years and always shower in them..I wear -8.5 so if I didn't wear them, I wouldn't be able to see anything.....

....:scared1: and I thought that MY eyesight was bad!

Apparently you aren't suppose too. :confused3 I never knew this and I have never had an eye doctor tell me otherwise. According to the article, you can get an amoeba infection that way. If my water is that bad, should I really be showering in it period?

Interesting article on how some people care (or don't care for their contacts). Cleaning them in beer?? Really?

No I dont. I wear them when YOURE in the shower (wink wink, nudge nudge)

Did I say too much? :littleangel:

yep..If I gave up my contacts, I qualify under the IRS's Legally Blind...I probably should wear -9 but they are harder to find so I suffer with the -8.5.

I do not see well with my glasses because they are so thick despite paying for the "thinner" glass..I literally look like I have coke bottle bottoms for glasses. I wear them in the morning and night but they make me dizzy.

and I agree with the other poster..if there is amoeba in my tap water..getting it into my eye is the least of my problem!

I do not usually wear them in the shower. I have before, but after hearing that, I won't be doing it anymore.

I will still wear mine in the shower. I still don't understand it. Who gets in the shower and blasts the water into their eyes? My eyes are closed when I stick my head under the shower.

Ditto... I wear -10.0 and I must have my contacts in at all times (or glasses, which aren't really an option in the shower). I literally cannot see anything - it would be hazardous for me to shower without them. (Or do anything without them!)

I am really good about taking mine out and cleaning them, but I have to wear them all the time.

yay! Another person that "gets" it..:lmao:

I do like that when I take them out, if I hold something up really close to my eyes, it is almost like it is magnified..like, I can see a splinter in my finger WITHOUT my contacts but now WITH..but, my finger is usually 3 inches from my eye.

I use to sleep in them for weeks and change when they started feeling gritty until I had blurred vision and my eye dr told me about the scarring. That scared me enough to start taking them out at night..I just hate that I can't see the clock anymore unless I am 3" from it :(

That kind of defeats the purpose of Night&Day continuous wear contacts. My DH wears his for 30 days at a time.

I agree..I sorta think its false advertising and I always thought it was the contact lens manufacturers way of making you buy more lenses.

The "next big thing" in contact lenses is lenses that disintegrate after a fixed period of time. It will prevent people from using lenses longer than the recommended times (which is a corneal-scratch/eye infection risk).

I have to say, I wear Night and Day contacts (did you know the highest prescription they make is -10? Hope I don't get worse! :lmao:), but I still take them out every night. I think since they are designed to be slept in (although I think only for 3-4 nights at a time, not 30! :scared1:), they let more oxygen into my eyes and I can tolerate them better than regular contacts (I can only wear those for maybe 8 hours at a time). I have bad dry eye problems.

I also clean them every night with a peroxide solution cleaner (Clear Care) - not just plain contact solution. That seems to help too. And if I happen to sleep in them for a night, it's not the end of the world.

Hm, I never thought of using the Night & Day contacts like that. I wore contacts starting in middle school and through high school but towards the end of my junior year they started drying my eyes out so badly. If I wore them my eyes would be blood shot for days. I've just been wearing glasses ever since. I'll have to talk to my dr. about the night and day and see what he thinks.

Add me to the club!

I am currently a -9, but am in dire need of upping my prescription... probably to a -9.5 or -10, but I am trying to hold off so that my eyes will not keep acclimating to the higher prescription. I am only 22 and am nervous that I will be fully blind before long..

I also wear my contacts in the shower, though, and have never had issues. I do find that the shower steam dries my eyes out, but I just put Refresh tear drops in my eyes after I shower and my contacts are back to normal.

Have either of you considered getting Lasik? I really want it, but am still a bit nervous about any risks involved and am waiting for my prescription to remain stable.

I was told that even if I had it, more than likely I would still need some kind of correction..so it isn't worth it to me. That and the fact I have to be awake WHILE they do it and you can smell the burning..:scared1:

Nope..not for me!

As much as I disliked lasik and wish I'd never done it, I do not remember smelling anything.

I wear mine for weeks at time, been doing so for years and I'm not gonna stop.
