Do you watch the news on tv?

I listen to NPR or BBC in the car. And look through the Google News headlines. I do not generally watch news on TV.

I mostly go to local news' websites online but from time to time catch it on tv; I don't watch news on tv other than local news if I watch it on tv to begin with. I go to Nextdoor a lot too online to keep in the loop of my local area. Local police department uses that a lot and so does the county. I do have a News & Weather app that I go to as well and also Google News. I'm careful to look at things for bias and to keep an eye out for possible omissions from source to source.

I put the local news on TV in the morning (in the background) to hear the weather, traffic, etc.

Breaking news during the day, I usually see here on the DIS first, and then turn it on if necessary.

I tend not to watch before bed.

i do not.

My office laptop (IE) home page is a MSN page which includes news items which i will often flip through while i am sipping coffee first thing in the morning.. but other than that.. i don't get much news.

Almost never. Rarely is anything discussed that affects my actual life, and if it does, there's usually little I can do about it one way or the other. The news usually just angers/annoys/depresses me.

IMHO the 24-hour news cycle exists for us to consume their product and give them ratings, same as a sitcom or reality show. They'll have to get their ratings from someone else.

I check the weather on-line, and get an occasional alert on the cell phone. The local t.v. weather geeks try too hard to be cute and sexy. Don't need that, or the local news anchor fluff either.

We use TIVO for NBC Nightly News and fast-forward through the commercials.

Watch the local news, as soon as the national news, "Breaking as we come on the air" comes on, we turn the channel to Mysteries at the Museum.

I watch the local news and sometimes World News Tonight in the evening during the week. I get the rest from online sources.

I watch local news for the weather and headlines. On cable I watch FNC and FBC.

I don’t...ever. I usually just go to a couple local and national websites in my IPAD to keep up in current events.

I cannot tolerate the bias of all the news channels or listen to the mindless chatter of “experts” giving their opinion.

Wondering how many catch the news like I do or still turn in to the television?

Not often. After 8 hours a day of assembling the news, I kind of like to get away from it.

I can't really defend what TV news is doing now, other than to say that, sadly, often we are doing the stories that people will watch.
We do a lot of "adulting" stories now. Some how an awful lot of young people made it to adulthood without knowing things adults have to do.
Things like:
1) License your dog
2) Get a new driver's license when you move, and register your car.
3) That (at least here in California) that fireworks stands are run by charities to raise money.

Don't get me started on "online" news or social media. Let's just say when I see something on FB or Twitter or IG and I call an agency to inquire if that information if correct....I am frequently greeted with a hugh sigh, 'cause just because someone can type it, doesn't mean it's true.

lol people who I know who don't license their pets do it because they don't want to pay money to the city..not because they are young and don't know any better.

We watch the dinner-hour news - both local and national, at least 3 or 4 times a week. I also listen to a lot of local talk-radio so I hear the news several time a day that way. If there’s an issue that interests or concerns me, I’ll then research on-line until I’m satisfied with my understanding.

I don’t do any social media (except the DIS) and 5 minutes of watching any cable news network makes me want to gnaw my own arm off. :sad2:

Well hopefully they at least get rabies vaccines for their dogs.
But I was surprised by the response that story got. People did not know, and I don't think a single one of them was over 30.

I'm sure most do well at least I hope. Ever since I was a kid it wasn't that it was a "young" thing about licensing. It was about not wanting to pay money and further to the city. I'm sure there are some people out there that have zero clue that their city or county requires them to register their pet (if the city or county does) but that's not exclusive to being considered young.

My in-laws haven't registered their pets ever (they currently have 7 cats and 1 dog). My dad did register their dogs but at first failed to include the 3rd dog because the city only allowed 2 dogs but you could pay a penalty if you had more (which he did after the first year or two); he didn't register the cats either for a while. And my sinful declaration is *gasp* we didn't register our cat with the city--don't worry he's up to date on his shots as well :) (now don't go spilling my secret here lol)
