Do you wash your new clothes before wearing them?

Yes I do because many stores use chemicals on the clothes to keep them wrinkling easily and I don't want those on my skin since I have sensitive skin.

i'm not a germaphobe, but new clothing always seems scratchy from the chemicals they use to make the clothing look pressed and fresh.

I have always washed new clothes before wearing them. It just grosses me out to think someone "unwashed" may have tried them on. Or someone not wearing underwear! :scared1:

....oooooh, GP cleans out his EYE PATCH before donning it, which, BTW he wears on MORE THAN JUST HIS BAD EYE.....

I'll admit it. I don't wach before wearing .... because the clothes don't seem new to me once they have been washed. I bought a pair of jeans yesterday at Old Navy on clearance, and I am wearing them today. I do wash new underwear before wearing it, but not regular street clothes.

It really depends. Definitely all underwear and all sheets. Socks no. Some times I will wash new jeans before wearing but for the most part I don't. Bought a few new turtlenecks at Macy's after the holidays. Washed them up. Then put one on and I hated it...the neck portion was HUGGGGE. I returned them all washed. Macy's said no problem.
It really depends.

We usually do wash new clothes before wearing them. The exception would be outerwear such as jackets, etc..

Brand new clothes - no. I have never once noticed any scratchyness from chemicals or from anything else really. The only acceptions are bathing suits and underwear that didn't come plastic wrapped in a pack.

Used clothes ie: thrift store clothes- Always

I amde the mistake of not washing a pair of Blue silk boxers on time. The dye leached out and stained my nether regions a nice deep purple. My wife walked into the bathroom as I was observing the effect, She thought I had hurt myself and was bruised up. Then, after determining I was not injured, laughed hystericaly for a solid 15 minutes.

She has no shame.

Thus, I wash all clothes before wearing them

I never wash new clothes before wearing. They never seem to fit right afterwards, tops especially. I have long arms, broad shoulders and a longer torso so I struggle with tops. Even though I wash in cold and don't use the dryer on my clothes, everything still shrinks. I am so glad longer styles are back in right now!

One of my favorite things is to put on a pair of new, unwashed socks. If I am ever rich, I will wear new socks everyday. I don't know why, they just feel so much better.

I do wash all sheets, towels, swimwear and underwear before using though! And I wash all of DS's clothes first too.

My husband says the same thing. His greatest joy is new socks.

No, I never wash anything new before I wear! Not undies, not sheets, nothing.

From a thrift store or from a person who smokes - definitely.

I always wash new clothes before wearing them.

I don't like the new clothes smell, plus you never know how clean someone was that tried them on before you.

DH would wear his clothes straight from the shopping bag, but I make him let me wash them first.

We gave DS and grandkids clothing items for part of their Christmas gifts, and they all wore them before washing them (they were staying with us). Ick.

I pay a lot for my clothes. I like them to look and feel new for as long as possible. As soon as clothes are washed, they never look as good. The sizing, the brighteners, the starch are removed. Sometimes, the fibers nub up and have a washed look to them.

This is true especially for cotton. I use a color guard detergent and cold water, yet the color always fades a bit, especially around the seams, edges & corners of collars & pockets, the fabric is fuzzier and it is wrinkly. Ironing will never give it a "New" look again.

As for germs on clothing, the platelets of human skin are designed to repel germs, liquid, and dirt, to a certain degree. Things can abrade against the skin and not sink in. Otherwise the human race would have never made it past the Stone Age, when they only wore the most minimal of animal skins for clothing. Not to mention, the animal skins themselves weren't washed with detergent before being worn. :scared: Likewise, we never would have made it beyond the Dark Ages through the Victorian times when people rarely bathed for months at a time. :crazy2: Cultural beliefs have really turned humans into delicate, fragile creatures that we actually are NOT. :yay:

I used to wash all baby clothes. Now it's just underwear, swim suits, and thrift store finds. I LOVE the feel of a brand new t-shirt.
