Do you usually correct people....

Most people know of my Disney obsession so they expect me to correct them or give them appropriate advice. So yes, I do politely correct misinformation when I hear it.

If I know the people I would offer advice. Just last week someone who's daughter went to school with my daughter called for advice for their upcoming trip. They have not been there in fifteen years, and I helped them for that trip also.
She said the travel agent told them to take The DDP, that everyone does. I tried to help here and told her to make sure she makes reservations. We always have TIW, so no dining plan for us.
I have done trip planning schedules for many friends, and many friends call for advice. I love doing it. I to have been called the Disney expert.

Not long ago, an acquaintance told me what a bad time she and her daughter had at WDW, where there "really wasn't very much to do." She had planned "a whole day" at WDW, but when they reached the castle it rained. So they turned around and left. I was speechless.

Speaking of bad info, I have a friend whose parents (now keep in mind they had never been to WDW) thought all of Disney was in the "Epcot Ball" (i.e. Spaceship Earth)! :scared1:
:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:
This had me laughing so hard I cried!!!! Can you imagine how confused people would be with that info!!!!

This makes me cry and cringe at the same time. This past year I helped a friend locally get a "Disney Vacation" lined up by giving advice on options they had on-line with a travel agent.....the result, they and their two boys had a MAGICAL EXPERIENCE. I don't correct people's misinformation....I send them to the Disney website to search out the facts. That way you don't get in the middle of any thing. Its kinder to let people discover on their own...just what the truth is for themselves.

That's an excellent bit of advice, Peg! I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut sometimes when it comes to Disney, but I have gotten better about it recently. Now I don't volunteer information, but I'll gladly share "Real" information with anyone who asks for it. We have so many people who know of our obsession, that they do often come to us for Disney advice.

Nope, generally I do not. The world is full of mis-informed people disseminating mis-information about all kinds of things. "Corrections" or even a simple questioning of "facts" may not always be welcomed in the spirit in which it was intended.

I usually wait until asked to give info however I was on a friendship boat from DHS and overheard the couple sitting in front of me say that they needed to stay on the boat until it got to Mexico. I just had to say something....

Some of these are all too funny. Makes me want to start a thread for just funny things you hear people say.

This thread reminds me of a situation that happened to my wife and I a few years ago when we were staying at POP. We were chilling by the pool and we struck up a conversation with a lady from Michigan who was there for the first time with her family. When we told her how many times we had been, she asked our advice on things to do. I asked her what they had done so far she replied "Well, we went to 'Disney World' yesterday". I asked her what she meant and she repeated that they had gone to Disney World and needed other things to do. Well, to make a long story short, they had been to Magic Kingdom the day before and had no idea there were 3 other parks. They didn't even know that Pop Century was on Disney property. I think she was a bit overwhelmed when we explained all that WDW entailed and how much they still had left to do!

:scared1: That one really takes the cake! I can't beleive anyone would spend money to go on any vacation they knew nothing about.

I am loving these stories though. :rotfl: I agree with Mom of Princessx2, she should start a thread.

Thanks for the smiles. :goodvibes

I have just learned to keep my mouth shut, there's just SO MUCH info one could share, unless I can get something in that's short and to the point. Such as when standing in line to meet Pluto the other morning just as you walk into MK, I overheard a mother tell her daughter in line "Well try to find where the Princesses are." That's when I turned and interjected that they were in the theatre and showed the direction of the theatre.

However, I am always AMZAED at the WRONG info that people get, and I often wonder, "Where do they get that from?" I was riding up the escalator to the exit of Space Mountain the other day and a father and son were in front of me. The boy had ust ridden SpM for the first time and LOVED it and was telling his dad he wanted to do it again. The stand-by line was 40 mins and the dad was sayign somethign about havign to wait in the long line and they didn;t have time. The boy asked about getting a FastPass and the dad replied "Well, if we got a FP that's the only ride we could get one for. You are only allowed to get one FP per ride per day."

I was like "Where.....?" :confused3 I really wanted to say something, but didn't. I did have a single FP on me and thought about handing it over, but then I'd have to explain the whole "ignore the printed time, FPs are good all day" explanation and decided it really wasn't worth it.

However, there is one thing I always correct. When we are down there and deciding what park to hit for the day, my husband will repeatedly call MK "Disney World" therefore I will always cry out "Four Parks ONE WORLD!!! It's not DW, it's MK." Butt hat's just to my husband.

Oh, the other day after we returned home, one of my husabnd's coworkers spent a day at Mk while we were down there (luckily we didn't meet up) as well as a day at Universal. So my husband's coworker was talking about his trip at lunchtime, and tries to "get one up" on my husband. He had the audacity, in front of a small group of coworkers, to tell my husband that for as many times as we (our family) have visited Disney, he was shocked that we did not know that Disney has a special FastPass you can buy and get to the front of the line. He was really trying to mkae the hubster feel stupid, until the hubster pointed out, after the coworker mentioned a few rides he used it on, that said coworker was at UNIVERSAL and not WDW. Aside from special medical passes and whatnot, Disney did not have a special purchase FP. Yeah, co-worker quickly got quiet...and then proceeded to bash Disney as he got stuck on SpM, missed his shuttle bus back to his hotel, and Disney would not pay his cab fare. Oy vey.

The other possibility is the Dad REALLY didn't want to ride SM again and told his son that so they wouldn't! I've said similar things to get the kids moving on! :goodvibes :thumbsup2

Unless someone asks you - its best just to keep quiet. We occasionally tell our kids Disney Fibs. A Disney Fib is that a certain park may not be open on a certain day or a certain attraction is closed on a certain day, or certain characters won't be certain places at certain times. Its our way of keeping on schedule and making life easier and keeping the magic of the characters alive a little longer for our kids. More than once some "helpful" person has butted into our private and quiet family conversation and "corrected" us. The result has always been 2 very disappointed and upset children - who would otherwise have gone about their day blissfully unaware.

Unless someone asks you - I don't think its appropriate to interject information. Doesn't matter if they're wrong or not - none of anyone's business. Its NEVER a good idea to correct someone, unsolicited, infront of other people. There are few things more annoying than Disney Know It Alls...whether they're right or not.

I had that thought in mind as well.....

but still even when speeding by the stand-by line for whatever ride, I always hear murmurs "Those are people who PAID for a special pass....yadda...." and I have to wonder, WHERE do they get that information. Every park map clearly explains how to use the FastPass system.....

I'll give information if I over hear a "I wonder how we get to Epcot from here..." or something of that nature.

I don't correct people over semantics. You want to call the Magic Kingdom "Disney World" I'm fine with that. I can figure out what you mean in context. Nor do I give them information that its too late to act on....if someone by the pool says "I can't get into any character meals" I say to myself "bite your tongue."

I only correct my husband. After 80 million trips, it should be ingrained. I never correct anyone else with the "four parks, one world" bit. Just the hubster. But hey, if someone should overhear....now they know.

And WDW is not the Happiest Place on Earth. That's Disneyland. WDW is the Most Magical Place on Earth.

I might butt in and say something like "yeah, the MK isn't always open late which is okay for me since I'm not a night person, but my son likes to stay there until the wee hours of the morning".

But when someone has paid a fortune for the dining plan and doesn't have any ADRs I won't say a thing. I'll just feel sorry for them.

I had some family members that went for a week and bought the DDP for all six of them and didn't know until the last day that it covered table service meals..I had given them some tips before they went but didn't know they were doing the DDP!

Oh, I wasn't picking on you..... I have heard people correct strangers on buses though - and it comes off as rather nitpicky.
