when turning after stopping at a 4-way stop sign when no one else is around?
DH was pulled over tonight for not using his turn signal. The cop was in a parking lot and dh did not see him. (Gee, must have been a slow night for crime. )

I don't think I always use my turn signal unless another car is around. Dh got a verbal warning, luckily.

Just curious - anyone else not use their turn signals in this situation?

Probably not in that situation, but 95% of the time, YES, I do :)

ETA: Leave it to me to get pulled over in the 5% of the time though

I always use my turn signal. It's just a habit I guess.

I use it to hang my pony tail holders from :thumbsup2

I don't know. It is such a habit for me that I probably do. I once caught myself signaling a turn out of the driveway!

However, I see no reason to ticket someone for NOT signaling to cars that weren't there!

It's a habit for me to signal, too, so I probably would, but if nobody is there it seems silly to pull someone over for it.

In RI, no one uses their turn signals, no matter what the situation!!

Probably 99% of the time. If I were to get distracted, I guess I could forget.

ALWAYS use it because I told myself when I was 16 that I wanted to only get tickets for "real" offenses like speeding and not something like a signal. It ingrained in me and it's force of habit...

I use mine out of habit, all of the time.

My DH and I "fight" about this all the time. I think you should not even have to think about "are there cars here, should I use it"--you should just use it!!

Lots of people don't use their turn signals in this situation.

How do I know? Because I don't have a car so I'm usually the pedestrian. Driver's that don't signal are a huge hazard to those of us on foot. I can't tell you how many close calls I've had with drivers that didn't slow down or didn't signal or otherwise didn't follow the law because there were "no cars around". Someone who didn't look around enough to notice the police officer likely wouldn't have noticed any pedestrians either.

Sorry to be so blunt, but signals need to be used every time. It's not like it's difficult or a waste of energy to flick that little switch.

I agree!
I always signal.

I use my signal each and every time. Even if its in the middle of the night, no one around, and I have the right of way. I guess I am just anal about it.

ITA :thumbsup2 !! And the same in my house, my DH rarely uses his turn signal and I think that is so RUDE. He knows he is turning and when the DS' and I are in the car w/DH we YELL at him wayyyy before the turn to USE it as he rarely does. If I am busy reading or not paying attention to DH's driving, he WILL from time to time use the turn signal BUT milla-seconds before the turn...RUDE, DH!! Be a more courteous driver...it won't hurt you. My DS' as well as I always use the signal AUTOMATICALLY out of habit! :car:

That's a good point, Mickey'snewestfan. Watching out for pedestrians is very important and I can see why you would be upset in this situation. Just a note about this particular 4-way stop - it's not a pedestrian type of area - however -- this is no excuse for not using the signal. It is, from what I've been told, an area that a lot of people run the stop signs because it's not a high traffic area - just yet. I think this is probably why the cop was around.

I will have to defend DH some - he's usually a very careful driver, obeys the speed limit, always wears his seatbelt and quite frankly, I'm surprised he didn't use his signal - it just seems to be something we normally do out of habit but I can't swear that I always do it in this situation. He even admitted that he normally does use a signal and wasn't sure why he didn't this time. I can guarantee you that he will remember to use it from now on. :thumbsup2 :teeth:

I use mine out of habit.

If there were no cars around at the stop sign - why did he stop? ;)

:teeth: That's apparently why they stuck a cop around there - people were slowing down but not stopping.

As to why he did stop - I guess this is one habit that he doesn't break. ;)

YES! ALWAYS! YES I use my turn signal! This is my biggest pet peave. RRRR I hate it when people do not use their turn signal. I get so mad when someone decides to turn right in front of me without even a thought of using it. What do they think they are put on the car for?

I was getting the oil changed on my truck one day and there was a trooper sitting there with me and some how this subject came up, he told me that anymore using a turning signal is pretty much a curteosy (Sp). Well around here I guess they don't believe in being polite.

i always use my signal. Even when i'm turning into a one way road!! even when the road curves to the left i signal! i'm obsessed!

I love the signal clack clack!
