Do you use the jacuzzi tub?

We tried it once or twice ..I think our first trip in 2007 and have since not used it. I think what grossed me out was stuff that floated out of the jets the 2nd time. I did clean the tub with bleach/water and made sure it went up and over the jet holes.

I am curious if people use them or not? If so do you go to any extremes to clean/santize them? Personally I wish they were just soaking tubs without those jets.

I don't use them myself just because of the fact you never know what will come out of those jets. But I have read on the boards that people will run a full tub of hot water with bleach.

Maybe I'm not such a neat freak but at OKW they seemed clean and used every night. I was very disappointed when we stayed at the THV and the water was luke warm and was not hot enough for me to use. So yes we do use them evey night if water is hot. Nothing better then soaking in a hot tub after a long day at the parks.

My DW uses it every single day. She always cleans it on our first day there.

I use it....and love it....once I clean it out first with bleach and then rinse it really good.

Usually the jacuzzi is used, by myself, a friend, or the DGC for their baths. I always clean the tub/jets out on the first day and so I think it's ready to be used if needed. I have never had gook come out of the jets, and if I did, I would call Mousekeeping about that issue.

We had the exact same proplem at THV. I had maintenace out three times and they said water was as hot as they could make it. The funny thing was it was hot enough everywhere else except master tub. I gave up after third try because it was starting to ruin my vacation.

That's a shame about the THV tub temperature. It sounds like they need more insulation on the pipes, if simply turning up the thermostat on the water heater isn't enough.

I have only attempted to use the tubs once and had just placed my son in and turned on the jets when the water started filling with flakes of black. ICK, my parents have a jacuzzi and never had this problem. I posted asking what the black stuff that floated out of the jets was on this board some time back. The reply was that it was mold/mildew and running the tub with a pack of dish washing detergent will clean the jets safely. I haven't had the opportunity to try this again, honestly, it seems a waste of time to have to clean them ourselves. If it churns out black stuff the first time you can bet I'll clean it once more before putting any of my family members into it.

We enjoy having a jacuzzi tub in our room, and I typically use it once per trip. Our tubs at home aren't really big enough for comfortable soaking, so I like getting to relax in them at our home away from home.

I've never cleaned them before using them, and that's saying something since I'm a major germ freak, LOL. I usually just use the jacuzzi tub, then rinse off in the shower afterward.

The first thing I do once we are in our room is turn on the hot water in the jacuzzi and crack open the Owner's Lockers to get the bleach. I turn that sucker with a good dose of bleach for a while, then drain it and run it again with clean water.

I've never had gunk come out of the jets, but on my recent trip to AKV, I did have an entire jet assembly shoot out! Maintenance came and fixed it with no problem, but that was a first for me!

we do use them....after all the walking in the parks, so nice to settle in and relax. We do sanitize them as well.....just fill it up one time with bleach water, run the jets for like 5 min and empty. It doesn't take long.
When my kids were younger, they used to LOVE going in the tub and playing.

We also clean it right away when we arrive. Fortunately, we have never had anything gross come out. It definitely gives me some piece of mind.

I enjoy my Jacuzzi at home, and I enjoy it on vacation as well. The first order of business for me when we arrive is to fill the tub and run auto dishwasher detergent through it (or bleach if I have any). The bleach in the dishwasher detergent works fine to kill that nasty "mold" that grows in the pipes if it's been awhile since anyone has used it. I also run a "rinse load" through the jets as well, so I don't have to have that dishwasher detergent come in contact with my skin.

Actually, many times I run it and get nothing disgusting out of the jets, but I do it anyway for the occational times when I do. I also tend to use the Jacuzzi daily. I didn't this last trip though, because of the nasty patch spot in the bottom of the tub. Not sure why they did such a bum job of repair, but I suspect it's because they are going to replace the tubs with the rehab anyway.

What do you use?? Bleach/water??? I wonder if they make some special cleaning tablet you can drop in the water with the jets on and it gets clean that way?!

There have been a couple of threads about this subject before but I couldn't find the information so I googled it. Here's one recommendation that is similar to what I saw here on the DISBoards.

If you use household cleaners, a mixture of bleach and powdered dishwasher soap can be used. To make the cleaner, mix a tablespoon of powdered dishwasher detergent with a cup of bleach. Fill the tub and pour in the cleaning mixture. Run the tub for 15 minutes, drain and refill with fresh water. Run the jets with fresh water for ten minutes to flush out the cleaning solution. In some cases, simply dropping an automatic dishwasher tablet into a running Jacuzzi may have acceptable results.

Haven't tried it yet as we haven't stayed in a 1BR, but will be in October.

The 2 biggest perks of a 1BR---King size bed and Jacuzzi tub! I've used it every night, every trip since we've been members....after the initial clean out that is. I've never had gunk or dirt or anything else come out of the jets, but I clean it anyway.

I love the jacuzzi's, use it almost nightly, of course that's if and when I can get my son out of there. When we arrive, I fill the tub and run it for 15 minutes w/ a little bleach, but thankfully I've never noticed anything coming out of there.

Gosh, I wish I had one at home to use, oh well, another perk of DVC vacationing!

Me too! I clean it with alittle bleach while I'm unpacking and use it as often as possible. I too have never seen any gunk.

LOL, did you not read all the responses above yours telling you what to use?
