Do you use points for Friday and Saturday night stays?

I would like to stay longer than five nights on one trip, but the higher points for Friday and Saturday nights gets me. We still want to take a few other very short trips, such as Christmas, spring training for the Braves and VB, but we couldn't if we used those points for Friday and Saturday nights onto our five night trip. Guess we need to buy more points? LOL

I placed a poll to see how many use their points for these nights.

Thanks!

I answered no, but I did use points for one night but out of 15 trips down there as a rule I never would think of it. It came up when we drove into Orlando on a Saturday night without a reservation anywhere so we went to OKW and used points for that one night.

I usually find a room on priceline for about $40 a night for the Saturday before. In 2001, we were at OKW on Sept. 11 and were supposed to go to Bradenton to visit friends on the 14th, but there was a hurricane and they had no electricity so we stayed at OKW on Friday night. It just goes against the grain to pay as many points for Friday and Saturday as I pay for Sunday through Thursday.

This will be our first trip home and we will be staying over Friday and Saturday. DH didn't want to deal with having to move to another hotel so we are using our points. Annmarie

When we first joined we thought moving for Fri and Sat nights would be an option, but we decided moving was a pain. so, we now have enough points for a week every year in a one bedroom during the summer. We can also go for 6 nights during premier season, ditching the Sat night stay. It's basically a no-brainer for us.

We usually stay 8-10 nights so we do use points for Friday and Saturday but I try to stay only one complete weekend. In December we arrived on a Friday and left the following Saturday, so we had to use points for three high point nights (we were meeting family members who were staying at POR). My next trip - in 6 days- Sunday thru Thurs. night - is low points, but I lucked out. I told MS I wanted 5 nights and gave a 2 week window to find me a studio. I got just what i wanted.

Since most of our stays are a week or longer we use weekend points. Maybe this is wrong but we looked at the points for a week's stay and figured the average cost per night when we were considering buying.

Yet we are mindful of weekend points. If we are staying longer than one week we plan so that we only use two weekend nights. For shorter trips we avoid them altogether -- although that generally means we stay Saturday night cheap and move in Sunday morning (we need Saturday stayover because we fly into Orlando).

We usually do not use our points on Fridays and Saturdays. We usually stay from Sunday - Thursday. However, this year, we are going the week of the 4th of July, and since the 4th falls on a Friday, we will be using our points this time for Friday.

When we bought in, we decided that we wanted a 10 night stay in a 1 BR sometime in June. When they split the season in June, we added on 50 more points. As a general rule, I can't be bothered moving. I want to relax and just enjoy my vacation.

It depends! Last year we stayed at BCV and had a late flight into Orlando, we arrived at BCVs late. It seemed like a waste of points. In the future if we get a late flight we plan on staying at a cheaper hotel for one night and then the next day check into DVC.

While on vacation at the BCV we met several DVC members who have in the 250 to 300. Each party indicated they do not use points on Fri. or Sat in order to have additional trips to Disney. It sounded like a good idea to me. I can understand the inconvenience of not wanting to move once you have arrived. However, the point savings make the move a little more attractive. Either plan works as long as we get to go to Disney! Enjoy!!

Because I am a teacher, we go at Easter and Christmas when weekend points are REALLY high. In addition we often treat friends and get 2 studios. Still we always do a week (cost of airfare isn't worth it for less than a week) and use weekend points because the last thing I need on vacation is a hassle. When I retire and we can travel at less expensive times, the weekend days won't be quite as high as they are now, so it won't hurt as much.

We usually do not at any wdw dvc resorts because we drive from Boston. We use Fri and sat as driving days and arrive by 1pm on Sunday..leave Friday and travel to return to Boston by Sunday. Works well for us. At HHI we have used fri, sat points, but at low season only. We have done this since 1994 and have had opportunity to do multiple visits yearly.

Esentially, we book our trip to fit our schedule. If that means weekends, then so be it. At this point, we stay four nights at Vero, followed by eight at VWL. It just works out that out of 12 nights, 10 are weeknights, and two are weekends. It is not planned that way, but rather just the way it works out because of our drive.

I don't think there is any one right answer.....

I agree that there is no right or wrong answer here.

We hate to move during vacation. So yes, we spend a weekend during our DVC stays. :)

When we had a 200 point contract only, we didn't use points for Friday or Saturday night stays. We would arrive at WDW, stay in an on-site resort for Friday,Saturday, and sometimes Sunday night, and then move to the DVC property for the cheaper weekday nights. Thatway, we got a little "taste" of a resort and reaped the ebnfit of our DVC member ship as well. Moving wasn't a problem, as WDW bell services will transfer and store luggage.

We have since bought a second 230 point contract, so we are a little "looser" with our weekend stays now.

There are times I would and do use points at a weekend, but as a general rule of thumb I would try to avoid doing so. I haven't voted on your poll as I think the options are to inflexible to take that type of answer ( I think there would be many like me fall into that missing catagory) into account.

For us, it depends on our schedule. Last trip we didn't plan on staying a Saturday night but then had a sick child so we decided it was best. This upcoming trip it fits better and gives us an extra day without moving to stay Saturday night.

At HH, we will never use 99 points for a 2 bedroom on a Saturday night. Way too many!:(

We would have chosen a 3rd option for your post of only staying weekends sometimes. Most often we do not stay weekends.:smooth:

We usually stay 9-12 nights so when we bought our points we figured enough for weekend stays. We do not like to move. For those who do not mind moving, not staying weekendswill work. It comes down to each person's preference.

Generally, we go down for 9-10 nights. Of these, 6 are spent at WDW and 3 are at my parents house in Davenport, Fla.

I don't get enough relaxation in 5 nights, so we will generally do Sunday through Saturday. Now that we have done a 100 pnt add on, we will have the flexibility to do 7 nights or more, when we want to. I do not believe that the higher points will deter us, if a longer vacation is what we need. :)
