Do you unpack or live out of a suitcase?

I'm super anal (recovering ;) )and must unpack. And I must unpack very first thing or I find it very hard to relax. Now I pack day clothes somewhat in outfits and on hangers (1 outfit on a hanger). So I just open the suitcases, grab the bunch of hangers and I'm mostly done except for pjs, swimsuits and toiletries. I'll be happy when my kids can pack and unpack themselves! With them 2 & 4 years old, I have a long way to go!

Basically my limit for unpacking begins if I am staying 4 plus days. When I travel for work, I am usually gone for 2 to 3 nights (and may only drag a hanging bag around which is very simple to keep outfits in and just hang it in the closet. When I go to Disney, I always unpack and as stated above I also pack my daily outfits together. I also pack garbage bags for dirty clothes and have been finding myself doing laundry at least once per trip to keep down the # of clothes I have to pack. I stayed 10 days last year and packed for 5 days and did laundry on days 4 an 8, less to have to pack back in the luggage as well.

I do a "modified unpack". I usually pack my stuff in space bags, separated into tops, pants, undies, socks, etc. My stuff and DH's stuff are in separate bags, but they all fit in one suitcase. I leave undies, socks and anything that won't get wrinkled in the bags and put the bags in the drawers. I hang things that will get really wrinkled, and put shoes on the floor in the closet. We each have a carry-on with our personal stuff, jewelry, medications, make-up (for me, not for him!), and whatever other "bathroom goodies" we carry. Those two bags go in the bathroom. I also bring some empty plastic bags for laundry. This way, I can see at a glance whether or not I need to do laundry!

I like to travel light, and don't mind doing laundry.

We always unpack at WDW but oddly enough, we usually don't when we stay somewhere else!

DD insists on claiming her area of the dresser when we first come in the room and we all unpack right away. I agree with other posters--makes it feel like home. It also kind of makes me feel like I'm "living" at WDW and since we're all squared away there, maybe we won't have to leave!

We always unpack - unless we are staying for just a night or two and then I'll deal with living out of the suitcases - DH has to unpack no matter what.

depends on the length of the trip. Just got back from 3 days in Vegas, so we did not unpack. Four or more days is when I would start the unpacking process

I spent *many* vacations living out of the suitcase. Now I unpack every bit of clothing ONLY and hang them up and put some things in drawers. I have lots of other stuff in my luggage besides clothing, and I had found it to be so frustrating to dig for something ( like batteries ) while there's still clothing in there.

The toiletries that I am using currently I put on the vanity, but the replacements for my small size toiletries, I keep in the suitcase until I need them.

It sure is easier to find stuff the way I do it now. :D

Are you kidding me? Who has time to unpack??!! We put separate outfits with underwear and socks all together in separate ziploc storage bags. The kids just grab out one of the bags and get dressed. Dirty clothes go back in a ziploc.

The suitcase is set on the suitcase caddy and left open. That is what the suitcase stand is there for!

Drawers are for snacks and breakables.

We have a really nice bag that holds all the toiletries and hangs on the bathroom door. It opens up almost like having a portable cabinet and it holds EVERYTHING.

Unpack, I too am very anal and I also pack the outfits together. I like to put the suitcase in the closet and not have to look at it.

We usually stay 14 nights in one Disney hotel - the first thing we do is ask for lots of extra hangers. This year we are going for the same duration but staying in 3 hotels - we are taking 3 suitcases (one for Universal hotel i.e. no Disney clothes), one for Pop Century (including Halloween costumes!) and one for POFQ. I intend unpacking just the one case for each stay - let's see if it works!

My kids are growing up....We will be arriving in the evening and the only park open late will be MK......DD said "Mom let's just hang around on the BW and unpack and decorate the room" HUH???

I will unpack a little and then I am outta there!

I use the suitcase caddy too but it stays in the closet holding a suitcase to put the dirty clothes in. As each suitcase is filled, it goes to the car. We use the space under the caddy for shoes which I can't imagine not being in the closet....would drive me batty.

We almost always need extra hangers too.

When our children were very young, I packed their clothes for them in seperate bags but even so we put them away in drawers.

Our children were pretty little when I started having them unpack their own suitcases. They seemed to enjoy it and take pride in their little space. And my two younger kids have special needs....didn't matter, they still enjoyed it.

This thread is fun. Always interesting to see how others organize their trips.

I'm one of the minority that never unpacks! I'm pretty OCD about my organization. It's just easier for me not to loose things or leave things that way. I bring a separate bag for the dirty clothes which leaves room in my original suitcases for purchases.

I also keep the suitcases locked when I'm not in the room. I do that everywhere. I'm not a very trusting person, even at Disney World!!

We live out of the suitcase. I hang up the shirts so they don't get wrinkled.

Always unpack becasue it makes me feel that I'm staying for awhile! Even for 3 nights I'll unpack..but I do pack with tissue paper and line the drawers with that first - no matter which Resort.

I've convinced fellow traveler friends to unpack at Disney and they swear it makes them feel like they are settling in too! Of course, I don't know if they do it when we do not do Disney together! LOL

Wehn my kids were young they loved the unpacking - they knew were there to stay awhile.

We unpack. It makes me feel like we'll be there for longer. My problem for this trip is getting packed up. :D

Unpack - I hate living out of a suitcase and having wrinkled clothing. Yuck!

Out of the suitcase, just seems so much easier and I am a germ aphobic so I don't wanna use the drawera that other people have the clothes and underwear in :D

I'm nuts about germs too..bring lysol wipes and put tissue paer in the drawers - easy and you'll feel you've been away twice as long!!!

GailT (again!) - I'm in Boston too!! :)
