For all the pin traders - are you into collecting certain pins, or types of pins? Trying to think of a unique theme for trading on our next trip. We are collectors, we just like the fun of trading and trying to find that one special pin. On the next trip, we'll trade for some other theme. One of my DGDs traded for Jessica pins, another was looking for characters in a mode of transportation. What do you look for? We're rather new to pin trading. Any pin trading tips?

I look for unusual pins or if I can get them I'm all for Nightmare Before Christmas pins. Gotta have those.

Of course, we collect Tigger pins, and pins from our favorite attractions. We also get a pin from any new resort we stay at. This time will be our first at the Contemporary, so another new pin for the collection. Other than that, we (really me) collect those pins that happen to interest us at the time.

Another good pin site is Pin Pics at http://www.pinpics.com. You can register there and list all of your pins. If you are so inclined, you can also trade with willing collectors. :teeth:

dd is 4 & very in to princesses so we traded for princess pins.

I like the Villains as does my nephew. I also like Little Mermaid, Figment and the patriotic pins. DD looks for Belle/Beauty & the Beast. DDBF likes Donald Duck. My friend likes Tinkerbell. My friend's son, who is traveling with me this trip, likes Goofy & Nightmare before Christmas.

I am always on the lookout for DVC pins and Passholder pins. I have an unique collection going. . . .

I collect the year. Started with 2000 when each number was a pin in the 4 pin set. Now each year I go I have to make sure that I get one to represent the year. Then after that rides and characters.

I wondered the same thing before our last trip. I got lots of interesting answers. On our trip I found my niche! Collecting pins off of CM lanyards that the CM's don't know who the character is. I educated a lot of CM's this last trip! Now all my pins have a funny story behind them. It started with Mad Madame Mim. I saw her and had to have her. When I went over to trade the CM said Sure, I don't even know who she is, but she does say Disney on the back! It made me wonder how many CM's were wearing pins they didn't even know the name of. So, for the rest of the trip I would approach a CM who had somewhat obscure characters on their lanyard and ask them if they had any pins of characters who's name they didn't know. They would look down and say yep, no clue who this is! and I would trade them for it. I also took the time to tell them who it was and they all laughed and said they guessed they should know that.

The best one was the CM who said she couldn't tell me the difference between chip and dale. When I asked her if she had pins who's names she didn't know she looked down and said, well, I have a chipmunk but I'm not sure which one it is. So when I told her how to tell them apart and she laughed and said she was just testing me and gave me the one on her lanyard which was chip and the one in her pocket which was Dale. She was a hoot and we had a great conversation. She thought our quest for unknown pins was funny and told us where to find some potential unknowns. We had a blast around the star wars attraction because hardly any of the cm's there knew the names of the star wars pins they had and my dh went crazy.

Have fun!

I too, collect odd looking or limited edition pins. A good example is the one's that were only available at the Epcot Pin Station during Christmas time. A co-worker of mine went and got me two, and they were very unusual looking and gorgeous! Besides that, I like Lilo and Stitch. I was chatting with a CM in AK and noticed he had a Jamba pin. I got all excited because I'd never seen one of just him before. Lo and behold, I came home and found out it was a CM only pin!

I have a few different things I collect:
Sleeping Beauty Pins (Not all of them just if I like them)
Mickey Pins (ie. Pirate Mickey, Scuba Mickey, Cowboy Mickey)
I also just started collecting attraction pins
Also any other pins that peak my interest like Scrooge McDuck and the Ducktales crew, I just got back yesterday and was able to trade off lanyards for a really cute pooh and friends set! More than anything I love just looking at all of the different pins!

I go for the Tink pins. (of course). I tend to like the more unique looking Tink pins. I also try to find ones that are from the different parks (better if they have Tink too) and ones that I couldn't buy myself. My biggest problem is, once I get a pin I like, I dont want to trade. And that seems to be almost all of mine. lol

Do you keep all of the pins you trade, or trade them in on each trip? The only pin I'm not trading is the pin we got when we took the Backstage Magic tour. Maybe that's what I should do....trade for pins you can't buy.

Last trip my dd4 and dd6 traded for whatever struck there fancy (and often traded it away a few days later). DD6 prefers dalmatians, donald, cats, dogs, tigers, most animal characters and sleeping beauty. DD4 doesn't have any real pattern that I can detect :). I'm still amazed at how much they enjoyed trading. We've replaced their allowance with pins and give them pins now for special occasions, good grades, etc. They traded about 20 pins each in November last year. Last week dd6 amazed me by telling me where she traded for each pin in her book ("This was my first dalmatian pin I traded for it in China, I got this one at Cinderella's breakfast, this one was from the bus driver, this one was from the monorail driver" etc.) When we told them we were going on a Disney Cruise the first thing they asked was if there would be pin trading. :)
