Until I came to this board I never even considered tipping a hotel housekeeper. We tend be good tippers for just about everything so I began to wonder if I was in the minority of those who didn't tip for this service and should start doing so.

So I am wondering how many people actually tip.

You don't have to leave your name if don't want to. I am just interested in finding out what the honest percentage is.

I tip based on service. I do not care about towel animals, I do care about the garbage being emptied. :) Last year I didn't tip as much because our good Mousekeeper was only there every other day. When she was there she got a tip. The other Mousekeeper did nothing, not even the garbage, so she didn't get tipped.

This last trip I tipped often and well because we had excellent service at POFQ and POP. ;)

You know, I never used to tip hotel housekeeping, but in recent years I have started tipping because I think these people have a very hard job. When you think about all the people you tip in your life, is anyone working harder than the person cleaning a hotel room? It is not a job I would want and I think they deserve a gratuity.

I voted for I always tip because I have always been satisfied. If the job isn't being done... after the first tip, there won't be another. I am glad it hasn't come down to that.

I voted for we always tip. Whether at the GF or the YC, we have always had great mousekeepers. Thanks ladies.

Sorry to go off topic but we were just talking the other day that our DS used to watch Rolie Polie Olie and I love your picture with the dog.:lmao:

Thx. Thats where the name originated from. My DS (now 9 ) used to LOVE roliepolieolie!

Thx about the pic. I actually have 2 collies and a fellow Dis'er had the pic in her signature. I asked her if I could have it, just kidding of course, and she sent it to me and told me she would change her signature.

Dis people are great! :)

I always tip. We've been fortunate thus far not to have bad mousekeeping. The one we had at POR was fantastic..

Usually, I tip about $4 to $5 dollars a day.

I almost always tip. I've forgotten a couple times. I think they deserve a tip if they do their job. They work so hard for so little money. Everyone tips so many other people, many of which barely do anything, so why not the mousekeepers!?

We tip $1-2 per day per person, based on how much of a mess we make :) I also leave little thank you notes, so they know I appreciate them.

Housekeeping staff are traditionally very poorly paid for very hard work. I always tip and always clean up after myself to make his/her job easier.

Truthfully, since I don't have children and my DH is a real neat-nik, we'd rather housekeeping just not bother coming daily. We don't change our sheets and towels daily at home, why harm the environment doing on holiday?

Five dollars in the morning and again five dollars fore the evening mousekeping at concierge level.

I AGREE! :thumbsup2 We always tip housekeeping. I wouldn't want to clean up after people for a living and I have great respect for those willing to do it.

i always tip - never use to - it never occurred to me until I was on these boards, but once I thought about it, I started tipping. I also seem to have a higher number of towel animals than others. Are those things related? I don't know....

Actually I had never heard of tipping housekeeping until I read about it for WDW. We never stayed in hotesl much when I was growing up anyway, maybe once or twice. We do tip housekeeping every day, usually $5 if there are 3 or 4 of us, but we normally pick up after ourselves, so they don't have much to do, except because of my Asthma, they do have to do more work for the special cleaning, so I tip accordingly. Never had to worry about that until they became completey smoke free.

I never heard of NOT tipping maids til I read it on the DIS. LOL! I thought everyone knew to tip. My parents always tipped maids when we stayed in hotels. Didn't matter if it was the 8 Days Inn outside of WDW or some local hotel in Atlantic City where we spent summers. It wasn't til I came upon the DIS did I realize not everyone tips. I was surprised to say the least. We tip $5 daily no matter if it is 2 or 3 of us in the room.

We tip $5/day for the two of us, but the average I've read on here seems to be around $1-$2 per person. I also only tip housekeeping if I am financially capable of giving out extra money at the time.

Please keep in mind though that mousekeeping (and most housekeeping outside of WDW) is not technically a tipped position, as opposed to waiters who are officially in tipped positions. While some people may feel it's proper etiquette to tip & others may disagree, it is not a standard expectation to tip a housekeeper.

That is why I prioritize that way-I absolutely make sure I have tip $$ saved up for those in "tipped positions" first. If I have extra money to budget, than I'll tip housekeeping as well.

I always figure if I can afford a vacation I can certainly afford the tip. If not then I wait til I can afford what comes with expenses.

Yes, I absolutely agree with you...which is why I said we budget the tips for positions that are actually official "tipped" positions.

Housekeeping, just like cashiers, food counter workers, park bathroom cleaners, etc...are NON-tipped positions (according to Disney's manuals). They all receive an hourly wage that is a least minimum wage. I would love to tip everyone in the entire parks, but unfortunately, I do not make too much more money than the hourly wages of the housekeeper. So I budget tips for actual tipped positions first.

If, by some chance, I cannot afford to tip those workers who are in "non-tipped" positions & gave us exceptional service, we always make a point to send a letter to WDW awknowledging these staff by name.

Wow, props to you if you tip every single WDW worker (tipped & non-tipped positions) when you go to WDW-that is very generous of you!
