Do you tip 20% at the buffets?

only place I go to a buffet is Disney - and yes - I tip buffet/family style the same as table service - start with 20% and then round up to make the nearest whole dollar total bill.

Believe what do you like and do or not do as you wish.

Minimum pay structure and percentages have changed over the years but the basic system has remained unchanged for several years. It is not optional to tip out. If you end up with a shortage on one table, it is taken from an overage from another, theoretically. The only requirement is that Disney has to guarantee them a minimum wage in the end for their hours. My kid is a 2 time prior DCP server-I’ve seen the pay stubs how it’s broken down.

Yes, it’s true if someone feels slighted, they can go with the old saying, “just go get another job”. But a lot of people enjoy the role and truly try to make a difference in people’s dining experiences. Some people tip a minimum or not at all, while others are incredibly generous. As far as it being a coveted position, for some locations, yes it is. But the people who are bringing in great money are also providing even greater service. Not everybody is willing to put in the effort to reap the reward.

On vacation I'll tip even more than 20% even on buffets but I have stopped tipping on pickup orders for the most part and especially when there's a gratuity ask at a fast food place. 20% really is starting to get up there in cost but something about vacation makes it feel almost like a minimum. Just my opinion.
