Yest. dh took ds 16 to the bank to open his own acct. for his summer job savings. This will be used for his car ins. which will cost approx $2900, maybe a little less. He works as a lifeguard 3 days a week and gets paid pretty well around here as the demand is more than the supply of guards who are certified. My dh said the bank lady said to him, oh my, this is just about what I make for the week. DS said nice, not to brag, he just talks, well this is only my first check for the week and I only worked 2 days. If I was there I would have felt so sorry for the nice bank lady and I wouldnt have known what to say. I know our bank is so cheap and I am sure she is working just to make ends meet for her family as everything is so expensive around here. I feel blessed that ds has a good job and he did work hard for the class and training to get it, but its like I almost feel guilty for my son. Am I wrong to think like this? Do you feel like you are underpaid?

Not considering that I only actually work about four hours a day, take 20 smoke breaks and play on the net.

I think the pay is fine!!:bounce:

I used to be married to a banker (he was a teller/CSR). They don't make much at all. I think I make pretty good money for what I do....considering I spend the majority of my days on the internet. Work is so slow somedays.

:) Of course I get paid too little.

I work in a place that isn't exactly the safest in the world.

Yes, I work the front desk of a hotel and you would think that's a great place to work right? Nope.

This place has been here forever and its a fairly low class hotel. We get a lot of local trash come through.

One of my coworkers refused to give back someone's $50 deposit for their room because they trashed it. The person tried to strangle her. Litterally. They reached over the counter and wrapped their hands around her neck and tried to drag her over. Good thing my coworker had taken self defense classes. She got away and called the police. We only have security working on Friday and Saturday nights.

One night when a coworker left the front desk area to go to the ladies room, she was attacked by someone who was angry that they weren't allowed back into their room after drugs were discovered in there. She was slammed against the wall and the police had to pull the person off.

I love my job, don't get me wrong. For the most part things like this don't happen and I make well sure that I keep back from the reach of the people at the counter (though sometimes I get scared the person might have a gun and have been told that we can't refuse to rent to anyone for safety reasons alone. if we find them suspicious, we are supposed to call the cops).

But I don't get paid enough for this job.

On the job application for my current position, there was a line for "desired salary." I put in $3 million. Judging from that, I'm well underpaid ;)

I think I am. I'm a teacher with 21 years of experience teaching grades 6-12. Yes, I have a lot of time off. I officially work 202 days/year. If I take my daily salary rate & expand it out over what a typical work schedule might be, including major holidays & two weeks vacation, my salary would be $64660. I figured a typical 5-day work week with the above days off would amount to about 256 days working.

What do you think?

Nope. I think it's about right for me.

But DH on the other hand.. he's very underpaid for how much he does and what he does. I'd say he should be making nearly twice what he makes, but such is the life of someone in academia.

Nope, I think I am paid fairly. DH is underpaid, imo, seeing how he is a human shield for the President and other dignitaries I think he needs to make what they make. :p (j/k, sorta..... )

Even though combined we have a decent income, its hard to live well in this area. The cost of living has skyrocketed over the last few years, the cost of housing is out of control. I don't think we could make it if we were a young couple just starting out here, we'd have to move to an area with a more reasonable cost of living.

i am paid at a level that i am happy with.

once i get my master's degree, if i don't get a raise, i will be underpaid.

I've ranted about it on here before. I have pretty legit reasons why I think I deserve a raise (ie. took over someone elses full time job, with no compensation for it, in addition to my own full time job).

Yes, I think I'm underpaid. I'm a stay at home Mom & my job is very difficult at times ~ especially during the summer. If I hear "I'm bored, I got nothing to do...." one more time...!!!

Then again, for the most part, I love my "job" & that's what counts! ::yes::

I work in a church - so of course I am! haha... but for once in my life.. I actually like my job and feel I am making a difference.
On the other hand... My DH is an engineer and he is underpaid for what he does....

I don't think that I am at all. I work for the county, so I have excellent benefits and make a decent salaray for what I do. What I do hate is that there are other that are classified as the same job that I have (I am in a Union job) and they make the same as I do, but do faaaar less. That kind of burns my griddlecakes.

Yes! I work in a school, with special education children. I am underpaid, but the benefits are good (I get a decent union benefit package), but I have problems with the union. THere are so many people that don't do what they are supposed to do!

Yes I underpaid because I do 3 jobs for 5.15 hour and I have a college degree.

They keep tell kids higher education.

Some kids I talked in high school I have given up on college because everyone around them is in low paying jobs with college degrees.

Not underpaid... I work at The Disney Store and enjoy it so much I'd do it for free ( but don't tell anyone::MickeyMo )

Yes, I am underpaid for my job. I got my raise earlier this month, it was..........ten cents! If I didn't like my bosses so much I would have quit right then and there. Unfortunately, they have no say so over my raises or my salary.

No, I don't think I am. In fact, I think my salary is very high for retail! DH, on the other hand, is either highly under or highly overpaid, depending on how you look at it. Commercial pilots generally make a LOT more than he does, but then, he didn't have to pay for all his training!
