Do you think we should leave Iraq?

Should we stay in Iraq or leave now?

  • Stay and rebuild their country

  • All military personnel should be removed immediately, citizens can make their own choice

  • Militiary can stay, but all citizens of the US should have to leave

  • Both military and US citizens be told to leave immediately

I don't want to start a debate here.............if you feel the need to comment, I ask that you should consideration and respect for others who might have a different opinion than yours. ::yes:: If it gets out of hand, I would sincerely hope that moderators would remove it promptly. :D

Do you think we should stay in Iraq? Should WE have the responsibilty to rebuild a country that shows us so much hostility?

Personally, I think ALL of our people, both military troops and citizens who are there should leave now. It seems apparent that we are not wanted there. Why should we bear the burden, both financially and in human life, to rebuild their country. :(

What is your opinion??

No, we shouldn't. We would be doing the good people of Iraq (the ones we are trying to help) a great disservice by leaving now.

Well, we did bomb the hell out of it...I think we do have a responsibility to see the mission through.

I think this question is too complicated for your poll - I don't even know how one would formulate an answer that I would pick.

We can't just go in there, wreak havok, and then pull out abruptly. We have a responsibility, but the goal should be for getting out as soon as possible.

The US - and British - interest is not served by pulling out and leaving the country to fall into chaos and/or the hands of Islamic fundmentalists who would then destabilise the whole region. Why do you think Saddam was tolerated for so long? Despite everything he inflicted on his own people and all his aggressive posturing he was a secular dictator who kept the militants in check and prevented Iraq from becoming an Islamic state.

I feel we should remain and help rebuild. I do feel we need to get the global community involved to share the cost and the risk.

That's a loaded set of questions that really can't be answered with yes or no. Part of the reason it can't be answered with certainty is that we are hardly presented with the complete picture. Most all we get is the bad news.

Another problem sometimes with these polls is there is never the same amount of written responses as there are answers to just the poll questions.

It would be nice to hear from those that did a "drive-by".

I don't know how anyone can say we should pull out immediately. I firmly believe a large portion of the country would implode.
"Civil War" has been floated around a bit lately. I think that would be highly likely if we left immediately. Do those that answered "immediately" believe they (the Iraqi's) can hold it together if we leave? Do they really believe that we are trying to help people that don't want help? It sure seems that way when you only see that on TV and in the paper. First hand accounts from soldiers/workers that are there or have been there shed a completely different light on the situation. While certainly it's not all roses, it's certainly not all doom and gloom as presented by the media and (more disgustingly so for political reasons) by senior leaders of this country. Why is it that we hardly ever hear anything from southern Iraq where the Brits are? Or Northern Iraq were the Kurds are? Why? Because there's no "doom and gloom" to report. Thats why.

So, IMHO, we CANNOT leave now or in the near future until the country is able to support and defend itself.

I didn't call you crazy, I used two words which were far more appropriate and which I still stick by.;)

I agree w/ those that say we must stay and rebuild.

It is disheartening when I hear of the cheering in the streets when someone is killed. I wonder why we are sacrificing our own to help them. It makes me very upset. But I try to remain strong and firm in my belief that it is best for all if we finish what we started. As a PP mentioned, we will be in horrible danger if we pull out now and Iraq then falls entirely into the hands of the terrorists right smack dab in the middle of the Middle East. We must wait until the Iraqi's can support and defend themselves. That will be best for us and them in the long run.

:wave2: Hi minniepumpernickel! Nice to see you again! We agree on this one! Have a sunny day! :sunny:

most government contractors (if not all) were pulled out several months ago. my company has a contract there and the government pulled them out at the beginning of the summer. they are now working from jordan.

i was against going there in the first place, but now that we are there, i believe that we have a responsibility to stay around and finish the job. i do agree that the goal should be getting out as soon as reasonably possible though.

Whatever one thinks of the war, my opinion (for what it's worth) is that leaving now would be catastrophic and have severe long-term consequences. I don't think we have much of a choice. We have to stay until the country is at least a bit more stable.
