Do you think WDW will come out with a 9/11 comemorative pin?

My sister talked to the DS manager in her town, and she said she really doubted if Disney would come out with anything directly related to 9/11 due to the fact that people might think they were trying to turn disaster into profit.

I think if they gave the profits to the cause - it would definitely be a great idea!

This particular CM was very interested in seeing the sad Mickey created by a DIS member. Who knows we may be in the company of someone famous! ;)

I think it would be a very good idea, but I doubt that Disney would want to get directly involved.

If they do, I hope they do not put out a low LE pin that will get people running over each other...

Disney actually told CMs that they were not allowed to display ANY type of partiotic symbol assumably due to Disney's multi-cultural guest attendance. Boy did I hear CMs voicing their complete and total disgust over that directive. Some were being so vocal about it I was afraid they may lose their job on the spot. By the end of the night though most of the Guest Relations and front desk people had on their stick on American Flag provided to them by their employers. When asked about the sudden change in attitude, I was told it was based on the Presidents speech that asked that ALL Americans wear and display the red white and blue at work, school and play.

I would have found all of this hard to believe if I had not been there to witness it first-hand

It takes nearly 8-10 weeks to get a decent pin made and that is if it comes out to your liking on their very first try. I may be wrong but it seems to me that this would be more of a time sensitive pin. Only time will tell, but based on Disney's original stance on this event I am thinking there may not be such a pin. I hope I am wrong.

I may step on some toes this morning, but I couldn't let this one pass, because I've heard of the same thing happening in other companies. Multi-cultural or not, WDW is located in the United States of America. I don't think anyone should ever have to be told they are not allowed to show their pride for our country. We've had many who have given up their lives for the sack of our freedoms and I don't think we should ever forget that. Showing our colors, shows our pride, unity and spirit for such a great country. As far a multi-culture, most of us are. That is what the United States is made up of. My family came originally from Denmark and Ireland. I know visitors come from other countries to WDW, but I don't see how that should prevent us from being able to show how much we love our country.
Just my opinion.

At the risk of aggravating everyone, I have to say that my opinion is very different from you....I don't think a Disney pin commemorating the events of Sept. 11 is appropriate at all. Putting aside that all proceeds could be donated, how could a pin be designed that combines the terrorist attacks and Disney? Even if a Disney site had been attacked, I would have a hard time accepting a pin that combined the two. I think we should express our patriotism to our country by wearing a flag pin and perhaps our sympathy to the victims by wearing a pin like the one from cheappins, but a pin combining Disney with the attack of Sept. 11 just doesn't make any sense to me.

Just my humble opinion.....

Leslie,
No I agree with you on Disney not having a pin to commerate the events of Sept.11. I was commenting on what Kathyrn had posted about not being able at first to wear a patriotic symbol. Last week Fox news had stated some companies were not allowing employees to show any patriotic symbols. That hit me the wrong way and that is why I posted my response.
I guess I went alittle off track from original post, but was commenting on what Kathryn had posted.
Sorry,
Kim

LOL Kim...I was actually responding to the posts before yours concerning the question of the Disney/terrorist attack pin. I was typing while you were posting.... I agree with you, employees should be allowed to display their patriotism proudly! To be told they cannot, goes against all that we have been taught! What could possibly be wrong with being proud of your country?

Leslie

I don't know about you but I think this combines the two very effectively.

Dom, I agree that that graphic expresses our grief, but I still believe that the Disney Company combining Mickey Mouse with some image of the terrorist attack is inappropriate. I think Disney has done the right thing by matching funds that CM donate...that displays their grief, their concern for the victims and the support the company has for our nation.

Don't get me wrong I don't think Disney should make a pin. I don't feel that would do any good for most of the reasons previously expressed. I just felt that this is a powerful graphic that shows how the Disney characters can be used appropriately and tastefully.

I am somewhat confused about what to think myself. I would not like to see Disney getting so involved, going from entertainment to politics. I guess the pin depicting anything in reference to such incident is more dramatic than happy Dis characters next to a flag, for ex. I'd accept a more generic, indirect pin expressing patriotism instead.

I am glad they decided to let cast members wear flags. Disney is multicultural, but terrorism is not welcomed anywhere.

I think that a pin on the part of Disney would be in very bad taste and completely inappropriate. I was at a restaurant last night - something to the effect of Joe's American Grill- and the staff all had on these t-shirts with the flag and 9-11-01 on the front, with their logo on the back. It really semed to be capitalizing on a tragedy for there own advertising.

On the other hand, Disney is doing a matching donation with their employees, not to mention all the ad revenue they and other major networks have given up as they went to 24 hours info when the event actually happened. They do seem to be doing the right things within their own business lines. But another Disney pin would seem to take advantage of a tragedy.

I don't think Disney should do a pin that has any direct link to the events of 9/11/01. They have enough patriotic pins out there. If they want to do more they should link them to holidays like Veterans Day and Maybe even Flag Day which is not talked about as much as it should be. Another reason they should not do a pin is the fact that there are many people out there who would gobble up tons of these pins to profit from them. Thank You!! God Bless!!

Alberto and Megashark, I agree with you 100%!!

Leslie

Should Disney resurface the Flag Day pin?

It would be nice to see a Disney patriotic pin. Been searching for weeks and have not found one to wear............
