Two weeks ago, I placed a fairly large order on jcpenney.com. One of the items came up as "backordered, to be shipped approx 11/29." Over the 2 weeks, I've gotten all the other items in.
I just got a call from JC Penney regarding my backordered item. They told me it was now in stock, told me what the item was, yet told me that the charge would not go through on my JC Penney card. I asked if there was a reason that the charge wouldn't go through and they told me that they didn't know. They asked me if I would like to charge this item on a different card and wanted me to give them that credit card number over the phone.
Now, I'm about 80% sure the call was probably legit since they seemed to to have a very good idea about the item on backorder. But, the caller ID didn't identify the caller as JCPenney and I can't prove it was them either. I declined to give them a new card and cancelled my order.
Probably unnecessary but something about it just seemed odd? Do you think so?
