Do you think there is anyway I will find a deal for a deluxe resort for $220 or less?

Have you considered a moderate? IMO, the differences between mods and deluxes just aren't worth the additional price. You can find some moderates at more affordable prices, especially in late summer. Another option is renting DVC points but if you are planning for this August, it's likely too late for that.

As PP said, AKL and WL are the most affordable. CR-GW is affordable also. We are staying at the CR-GW this Aug with the 30% room only discount and that ended up being pretty reasonable (for a deluxe anyway).

With CR, keep in mind the GW rooms sell out quickly. The GW Standard view rooms sell out very quickly as there aren't many.

Good luck with your planning.

I can't tell you that with the 20% off Poly discount we are paying an average of $330 a night in late august. We are also renting DVC points for one night at AKL Kidani. A one bedroom savanna view was $380 (at $10 a point through a DVC rental board). Not sure how many you are traveling with. We are a family of 5 and to stay at WL or AKL (regular room) we would need 2 rooms and then the price just jumps. My family is better off at a deluxe that accommodates 5 in one room!

That is usually the moderate price. What I would do is rent DVC points. You can then stay at a deluxe villa. We got lucky last summer and stayed for 7 nights for round $900. Points run about $12 per point. You would have to look at point charts but a studio is about 150 or so points for a week depending upon the resort.

Rent DVC points. I got a studio at AKV-Jambo House for $160/night (July 2013). You may need bigger accommodations, but it's the best way to stay deluxe, imo.

If you decide not to rent points or can not find a deluxe you can afford, maybe consider CSR. It's the moderate that feels the most like a Deluxe. We like it better than WL which is high on your list. Bus service is really good, and there is a sit down restaurant and the pool is themed with a slide.

I have stayed at AKL in a standard room for $220/night with an AP discount in April. I think you could find AKL standard room for the price you are looking depending on the time of year and discounts available.

And as others have said DVC points might be a good option.

Hope you find a good rate!:goodvibes

I'm speaking from 3rd person on this one, I don't do travel agencies. I didn't believe it either...just going by what I saw. :flower3:

Regardless, that deal is for this summer and I think OP is thinking of next summer and therefore, it might not even be relevant to OP question. :upsidedow

The TA I used had a great Labor Day (end of August) special for GF, YC and BC. I don't think its $145 a night but when I was originally booked for GF it was $3100 (not even, just cant remember exact #) for 7 nights and 7 day base park tickets for 5 people. I switched to BC CL for a little more.

I checked back at the thread I read it from and it was $159 per night. here is the link to the thread: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2994672&page=2

Danny, notice that poster said she paid that rate Labor Day 2012. And implied that it was a special deal, probably 1 of those offered as a travel agency exclusive. Deluxe resort rates went up quite a bit in 2013 and I expect they'll go up again for 2014. So while you might find great deals next year, I don't think they'll be as good as what was offered for 2012, especially if the economy continues to improve.

The cheapest deluxe is Animal Kingdom Lodge which is still going to cost more than $300 per night during the summer. Even if you got a discount, it wouldn't be that good.

That's just not true. While it certainly is dependent on which summer week and available room inventory, every third party booking site is currently offering AKL for $199/night in August (I used 3rd wk in Aug Sun to Sun for the example) and $202/night in July (I used 3rd wk in July Sun to Sun for the example). Throw in potential discount codes (Travelocity just had a 15% code expire, Orbitz has a current 15% code) and it goes even lower. If OP was going this summer, he could go to Orbitz right now and get AKL for $169/night (with code) for that August week or $172/night (with code) for that July week. WL would be a few bucks more.

However, OP is asking about next summer. So there is no way to know whether those rates or discount codes will be available then, but they are now.

Those rates don't include the taxes though, right? We were able to book AKL this summer with a military rate and took the price to $183 per night. But add the taxes, and we're just over $200

Renting points will probably be your cheapest option. You can find renters for $11 a point. In the summer at AKL, you could get a value room for $143 a night.
