Do you think there is a legitimate sports rivalry between NY and Pittsburgh?

My husband considers Pittsburgh the biggest rivals of his Ravens team. He respects Tomlin but hates it when they have a win. (Sorry, that is the only Pittsburgh team I know). :)

Cool! We typically watch the Premiere League on weekends but don't follow local teams as much.
You should definitely give MLS a chance. The open cup is on CBS Sports Network, the CBS Golazo Network, and Paramount Plus. There are more matches tonight at 7pm ET if you are interested. MLS matches are on Apple TV, Fox, and, FS1. Here is DC United's website if you want more information:

The Riverhounds have gained popularity the last couple years. They went from being sparsely attended to I believe selling out games. I always say I’m going to get to one but just haven’t. Not a soccer fan, but would still love to get to a game.

As far as the rivalries I just don’t see it. I don’t remember the Pirates really ever having a rivalry with the Mets. And the Yankees we didn’t play up until inter league play started. I guess maybe you could say the were rivals in 1960 when the Pirates beat them in the World Series but that’s way before my time.

Same with the Jets and Giants. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say either of those teams would be considered a rival of the Steelers (even historically speaking when it was more the Raiders and Cowboys).
Good luck to your team tonight. I'll be rooting for my NYCFC obviously (while keeping an eye on the Knicks), but may the best team win. I hope you have a chance to tune in if you can.

I have it on. I’m on my phone at the same time so not paying 100% attention but I’ll keep it on for a bit for sure.

Thoughts so far?

Kinda boring haha. I know soccer is the most popular world sport but I don’t get it. It’s 95% back and forth midfield. Very few exciting opportunities.

There has been a couple exiting moments. I feel like both teams have been playing evenly, not one looking like the clear better team so that’s nice. I do enjoy watching any Pittsburgh sports teams.

I guess I’m used to hockey where there are probably at least 30 good chances a game. In soccer (when I watch anyway) it’s usually not even half that.

I really tried getting into soccer about 20 years ago. A good friend loved it and a coworker went somewhere in Europe to play so he’d talk about a lot. Just never really could get into it.

I remember when I was a kid ESPN would televise indoor soccer. Now that was fun because they played on much smaller surfaces (mostly nhl rinks covered up).

Forgot to ask, what do you think of Highmark stadium? I know it’s very small but it’s such a great setting. When I was younger the site had a smaller concert venue there. Always enjoyed going to see concerts with a great view.

NYCFC isn't using their best lineup and the stadium is using turf so the play is naturally slower. NYCFC usually plays on grass at home. The play is always better on a grass pitch. I'm impressed by Pittsburgh's commitment to the match though. VAR is not available at your stadium though and that's disappointing. I do hope your stadium gets that stadium expansion plan approved.

I think it's beautiful for a USL Championship stadium.

This what NYCFC new stadium will look like:
