I find it absolutely comical. I have better things to worry about than if someone edits their original post. Just my two cents...

And half the time the OP edits their post after being piled on, and I can't say I'd blame them.

No. It makes it easier to keep up with when you arrive late to the roast.

No, I don't think it's silly. If you are coming onto a public message board then you are going to have to expect all different responses and opinions. Sometimes, they may not be to nice, but not everything in life is.

To go back and erase and/or edit your message because you don't want to play anymore, or because you got called out on something? I think it's immature and yet hysterical at the same time. :rotfl:

I think we have opposing views on what is immature.

To me - what an anonymous person, on a message board posts, or chooses to remove is the last thing in my life I'll worry about.

That's just me, though. I see the pile on's sometimes, and no matter what the OP once posted, I feel terrible for the person. They back the person into a corner, and it's just gross.

I must have missed the new rule. :confused3

I think it's ridiculous so I won't be one who follows it.

Fyi, nobody tells JJ what to do. And you can ask my husband and son if you don't believe that. ;)

I like the New Rule. It can make some threads much easier to follow.

I think it's ridiculous (and childish) for someone to delete their posts because they don't like the replies they are getting. I find it hilarious, though, when they delete the posts after they've already been quoted.

Frankly I don't think people put enough thought into what they choose to post. If you don't want something to be floating around out there on the internet forever, don't post it! If you think about it and decide you're okay with everybody and their dog reading whatever it is, post away. Didn't get the responses you were hoping for? Oh well - it's the internet; there are people on here who are going to disagree with pretty much everything. You know that before you post. If you can't handle that, it's much wiser not to post to begin with.

It's not just you. I feel the same way.

I was joking in my last post, but seriously. Isn't "The Rule" taking message boards a little too seriously? What's the big deal if someone's taking a pounding on their OP and wants to back out of the discussion?

Message boards are not real life; when you participate on them very frequently, you can forget that. It's just a written form of discussion and shouldn't be something to get all bent out of shape over.

That helps :rolleyes1

I apologize. I thought it talked about "The Rule".

The rule is - whoever posts after the OP - must quote the OP, so then everyone can see what the OP posted, even after the OP may later choose to end the discussion, and delete the original post.

This is not a *real* rule, and only really applies to 'incriminating' topics. Odds are no one cares about "The Rule" if the OP posted:

Good Golly, I love Chocolate!

That's "The Rule".

We might. To me, in this situation, immaturity is "taking your toys and going home" because people won't agree with you or do things your way. Almost like they are a 4 year old pouting.

Never said I worry about it. ;) I think it' funny, but it certianly doesn't keep me up at night.

Sure, people can be harsh on here, however, it's just people's opinions and thoughts. I guess I have tougher skin then to let an anonymous person's words get me so upset that I remove my post and run.

I like the new "rule" I agree with PPs who feel it is immature (or pot stirring or both sometimes) to post something and then delete it or change it when you do not get the responses you are looking for. I do not think this prevents the OP from backing out of the discussion. All the OP has to do is quit reading/posting--but others may want to continue without the OP at that point (because it has become an interesting topic to many).

I think it needs a new name. "New Rule" doesnt apply anymore since its not all that new anymore. ;):thumbsup2
