Do you think Susan Boyle has staying power or is this one album it?

I just bought Susan Boyle's CD and although I think she has the voice of an angel, I am not sure what will come for her after this. It seems she does not have her own material, so hopefully someone will write something just for her. I hope she stays around, but even if not, I understand she has sold over 400,000 copies of her CD and is planning on buying the unit she currently rents in Scotland. Good for her!

I think this will be it. You have to do more than just sell albums and she seems to have a tough time doing more.

There are rumors that she may appear on Broadway. It would be hard to sell original material. Look at stars like Barry Manilow, Rod Stewart. They have not had original albums in years, they keep doing "best of".

I think this will be an only. To be a truly great star you have to go out there and sell yourself, and I think that aspect of show biz is probably out of reach for her. She seems to be rather fragile emotionally and I think that's the way people respond to her, as thought she needs to be handled with care. I don't think I know of ANY performers who could sustain their saleability based on their emotional fragility. You have to have a pretty thick skin to make it in the music business.

That's a hard one to predict. Popularity has absolutely nothing to do with talent and ability. I'm afraid many of the truly talented singers who were popular years ago wouldn't make it today. :sad2:

She will find her niche and have a following. She won't be mainstream America. And that's okay. I doubt she'll disappear....she just won't be on a superstar radar track.

I agree with most people here. I think this is her 15 minutes. Glad to hear that she's going to use the money to buy a permanent home for herself, though.

saw her on the today show....
I think this is it for her....

She could take a sharp left into death metal:confused3

Yes, she does seem very uncomfortable being interviewed. On the Today show, before the music started she twirled her scarf and swung her hips again like she did on Britain's Got Talent. It seems she is quite nervous and unsure of what to say or do.

I'm not sure.

There are folks out there who make some living performing only standards and doing modest album sales. She won't be a Josh Grobin for sure.

But I don't think there is a need for her to do more if that makes any sense. I wouldn't cast her off as a one hit wonder. She has the voice of an angel and I think there are far many who do appreciate her talent and not just b/c of her emotional state.

If there was a way she could market and sell her voice without so many public appearances, I think she could do more albums. But I don't believe the industry would support that.

I do know that there is an actress out there who has horrendous "stage fright"--it doesn't make any sense. But she does extremely well with an acting career while in character. But outside of a script, she is evidently a mess and is in constant counseling for it so much so as she now avoids public appearances (from what I hear and have seen).

I believe Susan Boyle to be somewhat like that. She can be in the moment for singing (even with some quirks b/c unlike acting, there isn't often a character that you can hide behind and the vocal instrument leaves one feeling rather vulnerable). But once that voice stops, I think it would be far too difficult for her to make too much of herself.

I think part of her break down from Britain's Got Talent was her fear of not being accepted and IMHO, I do believe her not winning certainly didn't help her confidence.

Are you alluding to Barbra Streisand whose stage fright is legendary?

Many, many singers have song writers create songs specifically for their voice/style. I can totally see her as a studio singer.
