Do you think Southwest will have a July sale? - Update - they are... kind of

We already purchased our PIT-MCO tickets, but now my DM is going to join us. The flight we have now has the wanna get away fare sold out - eek. So, I need to rebook all of us on the next direct flight (which is currently priced higher than what we booked) AND book our return flight. The price of the return flight is currently "doable", but I am willing to wait a few more days IF there may likely be a 4th of July sale (or "after 4th of July sale).

So - does anyone have any historical insight as to whether Southwest typically has a 4th of July sale?

They have in the past, but I haven't seen it from PIT-MCO before. I used to live in Pittsburgh and this is peak season. I wouldn't anticipate a drop if the trip is for July or August.

Thanks. The trip is in December. Just trying to determine whether to wait a few more days before buying or not.

If your DM is 65 +, have you checked to see if the senior fares are acceptable to you? Sometimes, those aren't too bad, even when the WGA fares are sold out.

Excellent idea!!!
I just checked... that fare is sold out, too. ugh.
I see where southwest's website says "happy independence day" but it doesn't seem to be a "sale". I think I'll wait until Tuesday and then book our return trip. Still not quite sure what I'll do for the trip down. I'm willing to change to the next flight, but it's considerable more cost right now. Perhaps I'll just book the ticket for my mom at whatever is available!
If I book at the anytime fare, is it refundable? Or is business select?

I fly PIT-MCO and find that SW sales never seem to apply to the flights I want. Keep watching, I have a flight for October 18 that originally showed as unavailable for wanna get away, a couple weeks later it was available and I got it for $161 one way.

Well, Southwest is having a "sale"... but, no sale prices on our flight down and flight back had ONE ticket available at the sale price!!!! I even called them to make sure that was the case - it is. I purchased it and four at the regular price. Oh well.

My mom did pay $$$$ for the flight down since the Wanna Get Away Fare was sold out, but I'll keep watching and, since it's 100% refundable, I'll rebook if something shows up. pixiedust:

Can't get a refund on a wanna-get-away flight. But you can get a credit if you pay cash and then price drops and you change to that. You can change(you can use the change button which helps you do this), to that cheaper fare, then you have a credit you can use toward another flight taken within one year from when the original flight was booked. Buy May 1st, and later change, you must use the credit, meaning buy and fly, before May 1st the following year. And can only use the credit for the ticketed passenger. I think you can purchase a 6 mo extension, but not definite on that or the cost. If you use points to buy your flight, you can get the points returned to your rewards acct to use anytime, for anyone. This is what I like to do!
