We are thnking of flying down next Oct for our 30th anniversary. Iwant to book a studio villa from the Sunday (day before Columbus Day to that Friday). I know it is Wine & Food time Do you think it will be busy. What are my chances of getting a studio room at the BWV, BC or BLT. My home resort is SSR. Should I book SSR when I can and try to change to the other room at 7 months. Should I just wait to book either at the 7 months. I'm thinking SSR will not be sold out. What would you do? Thanks,

I was able to reserve a Garden View Studio at BWV for Columbus Day Weekend this year. I did this at the 7 month mark. There was just the one studio available at the Epcot resorts when I called. It would probably be a good idea to reserve at your home resort first so that way you have something just in case nothing is open at the other resorts.

yes, BCV and BWV might be especially tough because of food and wine at epcot.

i'd book SSR at 11 months out to make sure i had a place to stay.

then i'd call at 7 months out (right when MS opens - at 9 am or whatever) to see if anything was available at BLT, BCV or BWV. if something was available, i'd book it.

if those resorts are booked, i'd waitlist for my 2 favorite options: keep in mind you'd have to choose only 2 options of 1) BLT-standard, 2) BLT-lake view, 3) BLT-MK view, 4) BCV, 5) BWV-standard or 6) BWV-preferred view. of these, i think BLT-lake view and BWV-preferred view are most likely to be available...but if you prefer something else - take a chance...

I always book at 11 months out and then try to switch at 7 months. I just did that for next spring and was able to snag a 1BR at BCV for the week before Easter. I highly recommend booking at your home resort at the 11 month mark so that you at least have something.

There's a good chance BLT will have an opening, and virtual certainty SSR will still have rooms.

Logically, you should make that 11 month backup reservation just in case. But I never bother in such cases.

I would book SSR as a backup. I remember a couple of years ago there was an SSR member who was furious that they could not get into BWV or BCV at 7 months for October and their waitlist never came through. They were furious because their guide told them when they bought that they would not have a problem getting any resort.

Good advice. Next problem - If I read here not to cancel till you are sure you can switch, so does that mean I have to have enough points for both reservations? And do I have this right: December 2010 use year ponts are good for travel between Dec 1, 2010 and Nov 30, 2011. So Since my travel dates are in Oct 2011, that falls within your Dec 2010 use year. So all my points I use have to be within the 2010 use year and can still be banked if I cancel one reservation? Do I make sense? I get so confused. LOL
