Do you think manicures are a waste?

I just love getting my nails done, I try to when I have the money. I think my friend and I are going to go have them done tomorrow, it's like $20, and I really should be saving for drivers ed, but they make me so happy and it's almost my birthday, what do you think?

I try to get a manicure every week or two. It is one of the few things that I allow myself to do for 'me'.

LOL, I am a manicurist, so my opinion is biased at best. ;)

Haha, then riddle me this, why is it an extra 5 for french? It's not that much different, is it?

I love getting manicures. I don't get them that often, though. I usually only get them before we go on vacation (2-3 times a year). I got a pedicure once and now I get a pedi and mani before we go away. LOL. I am getting tips put on with a french for the holiday ball, though. I don't really like the look of a french manicure, but I don't know what else to do. I'm really hoping I have enough time to get used to them and I learn to eat with them. LOL. That should be interesting. I guess I'll be going to get my nails done more often.

I've never had a professional one. I really don't like having my nails done, because I don't like my hands being touched. It unnerves me. I also can't stand the thought of getting a pedi. Feet are just weird, and please don't touch mine. I also have a hard time taking my shoes off in public, so I don't see one of those in the near future.

LOL, because you will pay it!!!! Actually, it takes longer to apply the french polish. (btw, I don't charge extra for the french manicure)

I don't like the idea of that sort of 'ala carte' pricing. I also don't charge for 'cutting down' nails, they grow...I file them. It's part of the service.

There are tons of options besides french (and there are a few different 'french' looks), what does your dress look like?

It's not a waste if it's a splurge that's important to you. Go for it.

I haven't had one in ages. And I think I'm the only female in the world to never have had a pedicure.

My place is 15 for a manicure, they cut, file, shape, massage your hands (that's my favorite part) and will pain, but french is 5 extra, oh well, I just love the way it looks :goodvibes

I haven't gotten a pedicure either....and I have worn nail polish so few times I could count them on both hands :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I don't know why, but I just can't stand the feel of polish :confused3 But, I think everyone needs a spluge or something just for them....if you feel it is worth the money, then get the manicure OP...but if you want to drive and need to save money for the class, then maybe it is better to skip it and save up.

For me they're a waste because my nails look awful to begin with and adding polish only draws attention to them. Also, with how often I wash my hands, the polish starts chipping after one day. Now, pedicures I love and get them regularly. Definitely not a waste.

I've never hade one either!

Well, if Wendy lived close enough that I could give her my business, I might get them done occasionally. Had to suck up a little there. LOL

Actually though, I have never liked to wear polish on my nails. I don't know why, but it's always driven me nuts. I do always have nice long nails though and I keep them filed and I even buff them from time to time myself.

My daughter is entirely different and from time to time I take her to get hers done. She also has a MAJOR unibrow and has to have it waxed regularly too. I got lucky in that area.

I bite my nails so i don't get manicures(some of them are less that 1/8" inch  ) but I LOVE pedicures. I take DD12 and we have Girl's Night Out and we always require a good 'cure. :goodvibes

I felt the same way about pedicures...until I was talked into my first one. My feet felt so wonderful after, I was hooked.

Manicures are sort of a waste for me because I have the polish looking terrible by the next day. But it is nice to have the cuticles done and my nails feel smooth. The place I go is $35 for both, I can't remember the separate prices but the pedi is more than the mani.

I love the way my hands look after a manicure. I use to get them done at a salon because my ethestician could do them so much faster than I could -- I take about 1.5 hours because I have a hard time making my coats thin enough, she did my nails in about 45 minutes. Now that I'm taking classes again, I'm doing them myself to save money. If you want a cheap place to get OPI, Essie polishes etc. cheap, try http://www.8ty8beauty.com They've got amazing prices!

For me it would be a waste. I've got the world's weakest nails. I'd love to have manicures, but why pay that money for nails that break with any kind of pressure.;)

Well, I think its okay and its probably the best option, but I just usually get a really bright color when I get it done. My dress is a really really dark blue, almost black depending on the light. It is a halter style with the top portion of it beaded a little. My shoes are black with a stone kinda section connecting the top strap to the bottom one. My purse is silver.

I have an acrylic overlay ontop of my natural nails and I get a manicure about every 2 weeks. The polish lasts for 2 weeks with the acrylic, so it's completely worth it to me. I keep my nails really short because I do a lot of typing, so I usually get a french or a very light pink polish.
I do it because it's something just for me that makes me feel good. :)
