Do you think it'd be OK to Carb Load

Just on Saturday as I am going to this Dance festival from 4pm until 7am and I think I might just flake out without a good bowl of pasta inside me. They'll probably only be selling junk food there so I don't want to pig out after I get knackered dancing!!!

Any ideas for stuff I can eat at 3pm that will keep me going until the next day - bearing in mind I am taking a teeny tiny bag so can't take munchies.

No, I don't think it would be okay to carb load. I've been reading some articles about this and a lot of marathon runners are taking things like cheese, nuts and sliced meats for their energy needs. They claim that they don't get as tired as quickly as they did when they "carb loaded", and that their fellow runners who do carb load seem to tire more quickly than they do, too.

Why knock yourself out of ketosis? Stay Atkins legal and you will dance longer and burn more fat :)

I gotta agree with Katholyn on this one...Carb loading might also have a reverse effect on you...the first time I "broke" my low carbs (eating pasta..etc), I got a really BAD headache, and felt like cr@p all night long. I am assuming that there will be adult beverages there...there are Plenty of carbs in mixed drinks. Do yourself a favor and stay on plan as much as possible...if you find yourself ravishing hungry...see if they have any peanuts at the bar...sometimes all you have to do is ask!!

You can do it, I know you can!!

I've been practicing on my honorary Brit status by ordering diet coke and vodka when a mixed drink is called for. 0 carbs :teeth:

I ment fruity fruit drinks with umbrellas...however, I now realize that there may not be too many of those at a rave in England...LOL!!!

OK - I'm off to the deli to get a load of meat and cheese so I can fill up on protein and fat,and maybe a few nuts to stash in my diddy bag. I usually only drink water at these things anyway - too hot and sticky to add alcohol into the equation - LOL

Thanks for the advice guys.

Good luck tomorrow, cutie. Dance off a few pounds and have a ball!

I think you made a wise decision! I've been on Atkins since the end of April. Earlier this month, I went off the plan and essentially "carbo loaded". Boy was I sorry! And not because I was afrad of gaining weight or spiking blood sugar levels. I knew that was going to happen (but I did it anyway, go figure). Got the worst case of gas after a couple of hours that I've ever had in my entire life. It really, really hurt - could hardly move. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, let alone my friends! I'm pretty sure I've permanently lost my desire for "carbo loading" and am resolved to do a better job of planning ahead.

If your body treats you the same, you will not be dancing (or at the very least you will "pay" for "cheating" big time that evening.

Nuts are a good snack to take along. They don't take much room and seem to satisfy you fairly well. Macadamias and almonds are my favorites. Also, eat plenty of good legal stuff before you go. Bet you will find that you don't even want the "bad" stuff. I've found that legal Atkins food keeps me satisfied a lot longer than the things I used to eat.

Anyway, I know this is too late for your Dance Festival today, but hope you had lots of fun and now know that it is possible to stay on Atkins even when you are away from your usual routine.

I hope you had a wonderful time, Elise!!

Hey Kath, is that your drink of choice now? :):)
