Do you think it will be a huge success?

There are so many planets in star wars not just the movies but the cartoons, books, comics.... Black Spires is distinctly and looks like Star Wars. To me actually it looks a lot Like Jheda in the marketplace area. I'm glad they didn't make it specific to one location already seen. Some SW love Tattoine, I don't, I don't feel the need to visit that place, I love Naboo or the Moon of Endor some don't. This is a clean slate for everyone to explore. All the Star Wars elements that people know surround the land and support the land and the sw story.

After reading reviews and now seeing Smugglers Run - my thoughts are a bit different. I said it wasn’t a game changer but now the question is does it move the meter that much at all? Looks very disappointing for the buildup.

I mean, the land has been open for what, 6 hours? Lol. I think a lot of people are jumping the gun and saying it sucks or is a let down without anything to back that up. The early reviews I've seen have said it's a neat and exciting place, and Smugglers Run is fun, albiet not the ride-to-end-all-rides that people were hoping. To me, that's not disappointment. Everyone should stop jumping to conclusions.

Having said all of that, I think it will be a big success. Star Wars has a popularity unlike almost any other franchise right now. Marvel is really popular, but that's been more of a 10-year fad, lol. And it's been just the movies. Star Wars has been popular since the 70's when the first film came out, and has expanded well beyond just films. I really don't see any reason to think it won't be a big success for them. Even if people aren't super excited about the land, they'll still see it as part of their vacation.

It looks like an updated Star Tours to me. I thought they might have gone for something more groundbreaking for this one.

They did. Its called Rise of the Resistance and will open sometime this year. Smugglers Run was never supposed to the ride that pushes new technology and blows everyone away. Thats what RotR will do once they get it working 100%. Smugglers Run is the Na'Vi River Journey for SGE.

If that’s the case then fair enough - SR does look a lot better than Na'vi. Although, it does seem a bit strange to open up your big game changing new land without the pièce de la résistance (pun totally intended)

I think this might help with some crowd control, even if not intended that way. Plus, the SW:GE is the big attraction itself. So it's not like people aren't going to come see the land just because their biggest ride isn't open yet.

I agree they should have waited, but they knew they could make money earlier if they opened sooner. So they did.

I think what they did makes total sense - especially if *just* a land in the park, how do you pick what local to do?

now, if they did a 5th gate for just Star Wars and you could do a land like Degobah and a land like the Death Star and a land like Tatooine, etc. then I could see that

There are just so many levels of fandom.
You have your non SW fan that will go because of the hype and then be disappointed with "just one ride" and "it's Star Tours on steroid"
You have the casual fan that will like the ride and some of the experience
You have the crazy SW fan who cannot believe they are inside of a SW story and want to eat, experience, touch, take pictures with everything and 4 hours will not be enough (ahem, ME) :D
I've seen videos and live streams of the ride, it seems fine, I am also in the camp that thinks FoP is fine. But I'm not excited for SWGE for the ride I'm most excited just to be in it

I'm sure it will be successful on a grand scale but serious question; aside from two attractions what else is there really to do there save walk around and gawk at the SW theming, which would probably be really cool for the SW geeks but if you're not that into SW...???

The cantina is an attraction in itself. There is streetmosphere. Really walking around is a major aspect of this land.

I just hope that the SWGE in Orlando has some way for a breeze to get through, and shade. I noticed the California location doesn't have a lot of shade and has a lot of close, high walls. That's going to be brutal at the height of summer heat and humidity, especially when you have a lot of people jammed in there.

The two are basically identical aside from some differences in the shape of the land and that it only has two entrances.

I love the HP rides at UO but frankly love the "land" more than the rides. That is what I'm looking forward to experiencing most out of SWGE when we return to Disney in a few months.

They could add some more fabric shade coverings .... granted they could have done that for Toy Story Land so guess I won't hold my breath

Well, we finally found LockedOut’s new account. He hadn’t been back since he proclaimed Pandora a failure, FOP a below average ride, and said the land would not move the needle.
