Do you think I was wrong?

As a Trekker why didn't you and your son having a viewing of the other movies at home first so he would have the background for this one.

Um ... you don't need any background to see this one as it has the original characters.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought this new film was actually a prequel so you wouldn't need background since in the great time line of the movies, this happened before the others.

Yes, sort of ... but I don't want to spoil the movie for those who have not seen it yet. In any case, you don't really need any background to understand and enjoy the movie.

Probably the child's questions weren't so much about characters so much as they would be about things that are unique to star trek or spaceship types of shows like the transporters, the space dock, and, of course, worm holes and space-time continuum issues, lol.

Don't sent them to the Lost thread, they'll be super confused on the time issues hahaha :rolleyes1

Ahhh the reasons I don't go to the movies and just wait for the DVD....

- People who can't ****
- People playing with their cells while the light blinds everyone else
- People who bring their 3 year olds to an R rated gore fest horror movie
- Missing parts when I have to hit the bathroom
- Nasty popcorn

The last movie I saw in the theater was Dark Knight and so far I have seen every Harry Potter (and I may actually go opening night, don't know yet)... but in general WHY should I pay that much money when I can buy the DVD, sit in my comfy papasan chair, eat what I want, and pause when I have to go potty?

Ohhhhhh loooorrd kumbaya :grouphug:

Sorry I would join in with the singing but if I do I will be banned for auditory torture!!!!!!!!!

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Glad to see the choir has arrived! :lmao:

BTW OP, we may not have agreed with you, but you get major points in my book for coming back and posting. :thumbsup2 Sometimes it's just easier to :tiptoe: away, but you didn't, and I think that's really :cool1:

To the OP:

I beg of you...for all that's holy, please be mindful of others on your next trip to WDW. Can you imagine "being in the wrong" and encountering a DISER while there? They'll get you straight! :scared1: ;)

I don't normally act like this. Any other day, I am the first to give up their seat for a woman or the elderly. After that fact, I talked to my son about what had happened. I plan to talk to him again when I return from my business trip.

I truly believe it was the man's tone that set me off. However, again that does not excuse how i acted.

Great point, but I didn't think of this until after the fact. We are in the process of doing just this.

Good of you to return to this thread.. You've got "class"..:thumbsup2

Friday night I took my DS9 to see Star Trek. DS has not seen any of the others, and was full of questions. As soon as the movie started he was firing questions off one after the other. About 5 minutes into the movie, the person (I'd love to call him something else...) turned and asked if DS could stop asking questions. My reply was "NO, he is asking questions about the movie." I was rather annoyed at his tone. Unfortunately it's not possible to convey his tone. I then told him, "you are welcome to move it's bothering you much." ********'s wife then asked nicely if he could wisper. Which I replied politely "sure." The rest of the movie went without incident.

Look, I am sort of a Trekky myself, but I was set off by this ********. Please tell me if I was in the wrong.

You were wrong.

But kudos for stepping up to it.

Sorry, I was on a multi-hop flight from home to Dallas. I love SWA, but the whole Love Field restrictions are crazy. The Wright Amendments are in the process of being lifted. Supposively by 2014.

I truly believe it was the man's tone that set me off.

Can't say that I don't understand somewhat. I witnessed an incident recently that I felt was very minor (or should have been) but escalated out of control because of one person's "tone". So yes, tone can change everything.

And...hope you know my 1st. reply to you was "tongue in cheek". ;):thumbsup2

P.S.
C.Ann is right...you've got class. :thumbsup2

Yup, you were wrong.

During my viewing of the movie a couple of trekkies who didn't want to hire a babysitter brought their toddler. He cried through 20 minutes or so, then they let him run around the theater. I was in an island group of seats that he decided to lap. It was better than the crying, but I have to confess I almost broke out clapping when the theater management made the family leave.

I will say my response for him to move was more out of his tone. However, that does not warrant my comment.

Maybe, just maybe... He wouldn't of used any tone, if you had just stopped your child from talking during the movie.

And for the Record, this movie is a reboot(retelling) of the Star Trek story... No need to see any of its predecessors.

I haven't read any of the responses, but yes, I do think you were wrong, especially if you weren't having him whisper before! I can't imagine not telling my child to whisper if he needed to ask me something during a movie.

A few whispered questions here and there are ok, but not constant and certainly not in a voice above a whisper.

This is why I saw an over 18 only viewing of the show, so I didn't have to deal with children talking, throwing candy or running around the theatre.

Also, I am NOT a Star Trek fan and did not see any previous shows but dh made me go with him and I really enjoyed it without knowing the back story. So I disagree with whoever it was that said you should watch the previous ones first.
