I leave it on 24/7 unless its lightening badly...but just got to thinking that maybe I should be turning it off - its in dd's room not far from her crib - the screen evenutally goes to a screen saver that's mainly a black screen w/windows logo bouncing around on it....
Whatcha think?

I put mine into hibernation over night. If I know I'm not going to be home for a long time, I will shut it off.

I do the same thing that CPM does. I put mine into hibernation and turn it off if I am going to be gone.

Yes, we should all turn them off at night.

When we first purchased our computer, we were told to leave it on all night long, therefore we did. However, a couple yrs ago a wonderful Dis'er by the name of 'Emmasgrammy' (on the cruise board) lost her dear daughter and 2 precious grandaughters to a tragedic house fire cause by their computer :sad1: . This terrible loss not only devastated our members, but taught us a valuable lesson. This heartache is forever ingrained in my mind and I have shut mine down every since, as I'd rather be safe than sorry. :worried:

BTW ~
The purple ribbons you see in some siggies are for her little grands ~
2 sweet angels, Emma ^i^ and Sophie ^i^. :sad1:

Turning off your computer does SEVERAL things:

1. Save $ on Power

2. Extends the life of many parts of the computer.

3. Drains your RAM, which is a good thing! :thumbsup2

4. Possibly will keep your computer area much cooler. We have 2 computers in our office. When they are both on it get much hotter in that room.

5. Sometimes clears up "issues" with your computer you don't even know you have.

Make it a point to turn it off at least once a week, if not several times.

BIL used to leave his on 24/7 til someone hacked into his computer and used up all his available memory. took him HOURS to fix it. Now he turns it off when he goes to bed.

Yes. Unless you have a timed event that is suppose to happen in the middle of the night, there really isn't a good reason to leave it on. You will definitely extend the life of your computer by turning it off when you won't be using it for more than a few hours.
