Do you theme your Christmas trees?

I love the coordinated trees that you see in the stores...

However, I know that will never happen in my house.

I have so many older ornaments, and stuff the kids make, and I could never not put them up. We also have some homemade ornaments that DH and I made our first christmas together...

As much as I drool over the magazines and the stores, I could never do that...

We have one of those trees. I really like it, but I'd rather have a different tree. Every year our tree is decorated with white lights, small red glass bead garland, red balls (and 2 or three gold) and angels. Once the tree is decorated, we put baby's breath on the tree to just about cover the tree. We top the tree with a raffia angel dressed in white with deep red rose accents. It's very pretty. But if I could, I would:

have a live tree - blue spruce - that could be planted after Christmas. The tree would be decorated with all natural things that animals could eat - popcorn, peanutbutter and birdseed ornaments etc. No lights on the tree. Then after Christmas, we could just take the tree outside and let the animals have a Christmas feast. :D

Nah...takes all the fun out of the tree. Besides, I like a tree with character. I like the homemade ornaments, the ones we bought on vacation to remind us of where we've been, and my sheep which make me laugh. The only types of ornaments we don't have are traditional glass balls.

Now I have a friend who decorates to a theme each year. This year it's a Victorian theme. Last year was red, white and blue. The year before was all purple and the one before that was all clear glass and crystal. They are beautiful but look rather sterile to me. Too perfect and planned.

Give me a tree with popsicle stick Rudolphs and angels made from macaroni alongside a cable car any day!

I have in the past. The past couple years I did all snowmen. This year, we have an anything goes tree. :teeth:

The big tree in the living room gets everything...clasic, traditional, hallmarks, Disney, old world, hand made, etc. But, I also have a small, 4 foot artificial that I put in the dining room with all Winnie The Pooh ornaments on it :)

I toss on ornaments, lights, garland and tinsel and my tree topper on my tree and just hope for the best.;)

LOL, browneyes, that's the way to do it! :)

I have a theme on my living room tree, it's a child's fantasy, which is a quasi almost "everything goes. " I like doing Xmas trees, so I also put up smaller trees in different rooms, & they're each themed differently. I find myself changing the themes of the smaller trees every year.

My "theme" is memories. Every ornament was either bought on vacation, made by me, made by friends/relatives, or has some other kind of story behind it. It's not as pretty as some of the others, but it's got a lot of personality.

Right now, everything on my tree coordinates. There isn't really a theme, but all of the colors go together. I'm anxiously awaiting the day that I can toss most of those ornaments and replace them with ones my kids made with glue and macaroni. :) The tree does look very nice like it is, but it's so stuffy. I want to fill my house with kids, and I want them to take over the decorating.

I liked themed trees when I was younger. I would never do it now though, I love decorating the tree and remembering where each ornament came from. Remembering DH's and my first Xmas together when I got those ornaments, and the year we moved into the house and we got that one, and the one DD made when she was 2, etc. A matching/themed tree could never be as beautiful as my mix of memories, construction paper ornaments and all.

A good friend of mine has several different designs for her tree, it changes yearly. The cutest one is the Disney beanie tree. She must have over a hundred beanies on the tree and then colored balls to boot. Very cute!

No way. Takes too much time and effort. Plus I have lots of ornaments with special meaning. I think those type of trees are beautiful, they are just not my taste.

I sure do! It can be called a few different things...remember my childhood, or maybe remember when you had parents and siblings!

Having lost my parents and oldest sister, Christmas is a time when I feel like I really did have a life with them. The years keep going by and they feel more and more distant. All the ornaments from when I was with my parents mean the most.

I have 3 large trees. One of mine is not themed and has all the special ornaments, (the ones the kids made, family ornaments, etc.). The other 2 are themed trees. I don't have enough family ornaments for all three trees, so I figured why not do something themed. One is all ivory and gold, and the other is all red/blue/green/purple and gold glass ornaments with red glass garland, red cardinals and red poinsettias. I think all my trees are beautiful in their own way though, and not at all sterile. All the "themed" ornaments have been bought for special occasions and by special people as well.
